The Chase
stood in shock. The boy before her looked so calm, so none caring. Finally getting her wits about her she smiled the fakest smile she’d ever given. “Wow, congratulations…”
Tezuka nodded at her again. “Thanks, I should be leaving some time next week.” He didn’t understand, congratulations really wasn’t what he wanted to hear. Hell, he didn’t even know what he wanted to hear. How badly he wanted to just shout that she should come with him. He dubbed it irresponsible and childish. was his closest friend, but he didn’t have any right to ask her to come with him. ‘But she’ll still be here when I get back.’
‘Next week…next week…’ ’s mind was frantic.
“You will do great.” She slid her hand down his left arm. “Your arm is better than ever.” She looked down.
‘Tezuka had to of known about this for a while. I thought we were…’ She bit her lip. How silly of her to think she was anything more to him than some silly friend. Even as she tried to convince herself of just that, it hurt. She had to get out of here.
“Well, good luck, don’t…” She took a deep breath, crying was not an opinion. She already felt like a fool. “Don’t push yourself too hard.” She didn’t want to hear his voice again, that calmness she knew would be there. He wouldn’t even know why she was so upset. “I better get going.” She started backing away.
“-san…” Tezuka was confused. She wasn’t acting like she normally did. He was going to say something but froze at the look on her face.
looked up at that perfectly composed face one last time. A single tear escaped her as it slowly rolled down her cheek. “Goodbye, Tezuka.” Before anything else could be said she was gone without looking back.
If would have waited, looked at him one last time she would have seen it. For once in his life Tezuka Kunimitsu was in a visible state of panic. By the time he even thought to stop her, she was out of sight. “…”

The Seigaku regulars, and friends, decided to throw a going away party for the team captain. Wanting to wish him luck, not like he needed it. Momo walked up to his older teammate. “Hey, Fuji. Why isn’t here? She isn’t one to just not show up.”
Fuji shrugged and took a sip of his drink. “She said she was extremely busy with her college admissions.”
Momo raised an eyebrow at the answer. wasn’t one to let things get in the way of her friends. More so, wasn’t one to pass up the chance to see Tezuka. “Ah, well, I’m sure she’ll come see the captain off at the airport, right?”
Fuji tried not to frown. “Maa, we’ll see.” He spotted Tezuka walking out onto the porch and silently followed.
Tezuka took a deep breath of the cool air. He knew he only had a few moments of peace before someone came looking for him.
“So, you want to talk about it?” Came the sly voice from behind him.
‘Of all the people that could have cornered me.’ Tezuka thought bleakly. “Talk about what, Fuji?”
Fuji slipped on that creepy sly smile, sort of ignoring the question. “ isn’t here.”
Tezuka turned and suppressed a shudder. “I see that.” All the years he knew this boy that smile still freaked him out.
“She wont be at the airport either.” Fuji pointed out.
“Is that so?” Tezuka sighed and leaned on the railing.
Rolling his eyes at his stupid friend, Fuji sat in one of the chairs surrounding them. “She would have waited…”
“Fuji…” Tezuka gave him a stern glare. Clearly saying he didn’t wish to talk about it. Fuji glared back, like he was ever one to give up such an interesting conversation. Plus, he wanted Tezuka to know what he let slip from his grasp. Tezuka sighed. “I didn’t have the chance to ask her too.”
“She would have waited…” Fuji laughed. “When did you tell her, a week ago. You’ve known for months. Yet she was the last to know. You didn’t even ask her to wait for you, you just assumed.” Fuji stood, more than a little irritated that his captain was really that clueless.
Tezuka didn’t know what to say. “She already chose.”
Fuji wanted to hit him but resisted. “All you had to do was chase after her. You didn’t, did you?” He left Tezuka there to think over his actions.
After the slight shock faded Tezuka took the seat Fuji had just left. ‘She wasn’t even mine to chase after...’

A Few Years Later
fell back into her bed. Glancing around the slightly cluttered bed room she smiled. She had finally moved into her new apartment. Right around the corner from work and well priced. Her phone rang and she turned over in her bed to reach and pick it up. “ speaking…”
“Already in bed without me beautiful?” The voice was sweet and amused.
“Syuusuke, if anyone hears you they will start to question our relationship.” laughed and played with the end of her pillow.
“Oh darling, you are the one denying the amazing chemistry we have.” He smiled leaning back in his chair. “Are you all moved in?”
“Yep, you can come by and see it next time you are in town. How’s the tennis thing going for you?” The two made small chit-chat for about an hour before Fuji had to go for a game. Right after she hung up with him her phone beeped. She flipped it open and read the text.
[I will be in town for your birthday, the big 26! <3 Fuji.]
just shook her head. ‘He could of said that on the phone.’ She thought before replying with a witty comment.
:::::::::::::::::::::
About a month later she sat at her office desk, going through a few notes for one of her articles. “~” She was brought out of her trance by the joyous voice. “I have great news for you!” She looked up from her paper work to come face to face with her editor.
“Oh, do you Nobu?” She twirled her pen and smiled a little. had finally gotten settled at her dream job. She was a writer for a pretty big magazine. They covered everything from fashion to sports. was pretty high in the food chain and she usually got to write about stories that truly held her interest. It did help that her boss seemed to be tickled pink with her, so they were on more than good terms.
“We are featuring an article on someone and you are going to write it.” The man sat on her desk grinning like an idiot.
nodded and cringed at the man messing up her very well organized desk. Okay, it was originally messy but she KNEW where all the mess was suppose to be. He was just ruining it. “How is that different than what I do daily?”
Nobu didn’t get the hint to get off the desk. He smiled. “You went to Seigaku, correct.”
cocked an eyebrow at the man. “Yes. Why?”
“It’s someone you know.” This pegged ’s interest. “It’s a tennis pro from your old school.”
“Well, there are three I knew that went pro.”
“Guess who?” Nobu seemed giddy with joy.
“Ah, Echizen? He’s popular among the girls and because of his arrival a lot of younger people are watching.”
Nobu’s smile grew. “Nope, think older.”
“Fuji?” closed her eyes and silently prayed it was him. She felt her heart plummet when Nobu shook his head.
“Bigger.”
“Tezuka…” looked down wondering where lady luck was right now. Cause she surely screw her over.
Nobu bounced off the desk smiling. “Do you believe it! He never interviews for anyone but he said he’d for us! Isn’t it great! Since you went to school with him I thought maybe you knew him! And we have to show him the best so he comes to us again!”
gazed out the window as her editor babbled on. “I don’t even like sports…” She mumbled wishing she was assigned any story but this.

opened the door to her favorite restaurant.
“Welco…oh, hey !” Came the sweet happy voice of the one and only, Kawamura Takashi.
“Hey Taka.” She pouted and sat at the counter. “Feed me…”
Taka smiled and began to prepare the meal had every time she came here. “Another hard article, huh?”
smiled at the ever concerned Takashi. He was always the sweetest. “Something like that.” Takashi gives her a sympathetic smile before going about business.
After eating, leaned on her elbows on the counter. “Taka, if we stopped talking after high school and I approached you like I am now, would you know who I was.”
Takashi seemed confused, but answered anyway. “Well of course, how could any of us forget our biggest cheerleader.”
looked down at her fingers, feeling her heart fall into her stomach again. “I thought you’d say that.” Takashi was still completely lost but figured would explain if she wanted too.
:::::::::::::::::::::
“One day we’ll have to play each other.” Fuji smiled.
“True, but not today.” Tezuka smiled back, it seemed the man had change a little since his school days.
“What are you doing after your game next week?” Fuji leaned against the hallway wall. “I’m going to be in the same town, maybe we can do lunch.”
Tezuka was about to agree, when he remembered something. “Ah, I have an interview…”
Fuji seemed surprised. He knew that Tezuka never did those before, what had changed his mind. “Really? You never did one of those before. What magazine should I buy that has the pleasure?”
Tezuka reached into his bag and started to search for something. Yes, the stoic, organized, strict captain had changed. He pulled out a small note pad and flipped through a few pages. “Ah, Everybody Out[1]…” He looked up at a smirking Fuji.
“Why did you pick that one?” Fuji wasn’t stupid, he knew that was the place worked for. He just wanted to know if Tezuka knew as well.
“I didn’t. My agent set it up. Said I should do at least one.” Tezuka shoved the note pad back into his bag and looked at his watch. He still had a few minutes to catch up with his old friend. “Why is it a bad choice?”
Fuji shook his head no, still grinning. “No, they have some of the best writers.” Hey, he wasn’t lying. He enjoyed reading all of ’s articles. “Do you know who you will be interviewed by?”
Tezuka was a little worried by the smile, but answered any way. “No. My agent said its better that I didn’t know their name. So I can’t go and read other things they’ve written about. He doesn’t want me to be all skeptical of their skills and ideas.”
Fuji out right laughed at that. Maybe his captain hadn’t changed so much. “I’m sure you will like whomever you get paired with. I’ve talked to a few of their writers a lot.” He didn’t mention that the writer was usually , but why would he.
Fuji’s phone rang, he pulled it out and smiled. “Excuse me for a minute.” He stepped away for a moment. “Hello beautiful!”
“Where are you!” growled into the phone. “I’ve been calling for like an hour!”
“And what is so urgent my dear.”
Tezuka looked when he heard Fuji calling someone beautiful and dear. ‘His girlfriend maybe?’ It would be interesting to meet the woman who could put up with the sly genius.
“If I quit my job can I live off of your earnings?” She plopped into her bed sighing.
Fuji smiled and laughed a little. “Why lovely, does that mean you answered yes to my proposal?” In the background Tezuka felt his jaw hit the ground.
“Yes…” Of course she knew he was joking. They had actually tried the whole dating bit for a while. They both agree, while the other was extremely attractive, kissing and fooling around was just, well to put it bluntly, weird. “Syuusuke…” She whined into the phone.
Fuji frowned. “Listen get some sleep and think twice before you quit. I doubt what ever it is, is that horrible. Call me when you wake up and we will talk about you becoming my little maid if you want. I will get you the sexy uniform and everything, duster included.” His smirk grew at the picture in his mind.
“You’re a pervert and a dork…” She laughed and smiled, her mood lightening up a bit.
“Oh, honey-buns, I love you too. Now get some sleep. Sweet dreams.” He smiled and shook his head. He’d never get enough of this girl.
“See ya Syuusuke.” She hung up and flopped back into her bed.
Fuji flipped his phone closed and made his way back to an amused looking Tezuka. “Girlfriend?”
Fuji smiled a real, not so creepy, smile. “Hmm, something like that…” He thought about it for a moment. “Maybe like the other half of my soul…” Of course he meant it in a should have been twins kind of way.
Tezuka noted the blissful look on his friends face. How he wished he had someone to make him feel that way. Well, he did once, but it was a distant feeling now. He couldn’t call her up or visit her. But the feeling still lingered and popped up when ever he was reminded of her. He was happy his friend found it. “Well, maybe I could meet her sometime.”
Fuji’s smile turned back into a smirk. “Yes, maybe you should…” Evil plots already running through the wicked mans mind.
:::::::::::::::::::::
A week after Fuji and Tezuka’s encounter. sat, nearly shaking, out side of the tennis stadium. ‘Calm down girl. This is business…he wont even remember you.’
Tezuka stepped out of the locker room shower, towel snuggly around his waist. He washed his face and dried his hair.
“Tezuka-san, the interviewer from Everybody Out is waiting out in the lobby for you.”
He nodded to the messenger and started to dress. “I’ll be out in a minute.” He quickly dressed and left the room letting the door close behind him.
“KUNIMITSU!” A slightly younger, very scantily dressed, woman ran out and nearly toppled the man over. “We should go to dinner. Lets!”
stiffened as she heard the woman. Her body, if possible, going more stiff when the man she attacked spoke up.
“Sorry Aina, I have an interview with…” Looks up to see the profile of his interviewer.
Turning laughed nervously, avoiding looking him in the eyes. “Ah, it’s a pleasure Tezuka-san. If you are busy we can always reschedule for a later day. My boss is really excited for this article so, I’m sure he wont mind.” She looked through her bag and pulled out a business card, handing it to him. “Here, call me when you decide on a time. My work number, and work cell, are on there. Have a good day Tezuka-san.” She turned and walked away, resisting the urge to run as fast as she could, as far as she could.
“Well, that was nice of her but it was rude she didn’t introduce herself.” Aina smiled and tugged lightly on Tezuka’s arm. “Well, Kunimitsu lets go!”
Tezuka was still in shock. That was … . His heart was beating a mile a minute, his hand shaking as it held tightly onto the card he’d been handed. His wide eyes looked down at the card, “ .” He pulled his arm free from Aina and made a dash to the exit had disappeared through moments before.
The moment got outside she ran to her car, started and sped off. She needed to get far away from here.
Tezuka stood in a now empty parking lot. ‘Shit…’ He looked back at the annoyed looking Aina, hoping didn’t get the wrong idea. Then wondering why he cared so much.
:::::::::::::::::::::
pounded on the door of Fuji’s home. He was in their home town for a game, and drove right there from the ‘interview’ with Tezuka. As she went to knock again the door opened to a smiling Fuji.
“Well, hello lovely.” He leaned in to hug her but she pushed by him and into his home. “I missed you too…” He said sarcastically as he closed the door.
went right over to his in home bar, took out a bottle and took a clean shot of the contents. Fuji merely raised an eyebrow at her behavior. wasn’t a drinker, an extremely light weight. She took another swig before plopping on the couch with the bottle in hand.
Seeing as wasn’t going to start the conversation he decided to. “I’m glad you are here I have a favor.” He smiled as he stopped her from taking another shot and removed the bottle. Asking what was on her mind would be a waste of time. talked when she felt like it.
pouted but allowed it to be taken without much protest. “What do you need?”
Fuji smirked. “There is a benefit I have to attend while I’m here. I need a beautiful date.” He got up and grabbed her a glass of water. “Go with me?”
took the glass and frowned. “I don’t have the money right now to buy a dress or anything Syuusuke.” She took a sip and sighed.
“I thought you’d say that.” He smiled as he stood and took her hand, leading her to a spare bed room. “I’m pretty sure I know your size and style. I hope you liked it.” He opened the closest and took out a gorgeous black, strapless, knee length dress.
’s jaw fell. It was beautiful and she fell in love right away. “Syuusuke…” She walked over and ran her hand down the soft smooth fabric. It sparkled and she smiled. She loved glittery things. “It’s so pretty.”
Fuji smiled as he watched her face light up. “So you’ll be my date.” nodded. “Good. Now why were you ready to drink my entire bottle moments ago?”
:::::::::::::::::::::
Tezuka sighed and put down his paper. had quite literally ran away from him yesterday. He wasn’t sure how he felt about that. “Maybe I should call her editor and ask for another writer…” He took a sip of his coffee then shook his head. “She might get in trouble, they might think she did something wrong.” He nearly laughed. ‘Yeah, right. Excuse all you want.’ He leaned his head on his kitchen table. “I just want to see her again…”
His cell phone rang, tossing him out of his thoughts of a certain beautiful woman. “What?”
There was a chuckle. “Well, that’s a way to answer the phone. Is something wrong captain?”
“Fuji, stop calling me that already.” Tezuka sat up and sighed. “What’s up?”
Fuji pulled the blankets over the sleeping woman in his bed. “Are you busy this afternoon? I thought we’d have lunch and chat a little.”
Tezuka thought about it. He had to reschedule his interview. But he also needed sometime to figure out how to deal. Maybe he could talk to Fuji about it? “Sure, where would you like to meet?”
After setting up the time and place Fuji hung up. Sitting down beside the sleeping princess he smiled. Brushing the hair from her face his smile grew. “You’re the one that makes me smile…”
smiled in her ‘sleep’. “You’re the one who makes me laugh…”
Fuji smiled sadly, running his fingers through her hair. “In the end you’re all that I needed…”
looked up at Fuji, a sad smile on her face. “In the end you’re the only one I couldn’t love…”
Fuji leaned down and kissed her temple. “I didn’t know you were awake…”
sat up and stretched. “I didn’t know you were going to recite my tear filled break up speech. It‘s embarrassing.”
Fuji stood to finish getting ready. “Yeah, but when I think about it I don’t get sad. Makes me happy, that I can do that all for you.” He looked back to a pouting . “C’mon, the break up was mutual . We love each other in a totally different way, so it’s okay. I‘m going out, are you staying here for a while?” He patted her on her head and smiled. “Oh, yeah your cell was going off all night.”
Nodding to his question if she’d be staying. Then as Fuji made his exit jumped to grab her phone and quickly dialed the number she had about a hundred miss calls from, “Hey boss!”
:::::::::::::::::::::
Tezuka stood when he saw his friend enter the restaurant. Fuji made his way to him and they both sat down. “You didn’t wait long?”
Tezuka shook his head as he took up his menu. “I thought you might bring your little lover.”
Fuji chuckled, doing the same. “Ah, no she was still sleeping when I left. However, if you are going to the benefit tonight, you will be sure to run into us there.”
Smirking Tezuka nodded. “Seems I’ve just earned a reason to show up.”
Fuji couldn’t hold back the evil glint in his eye. Thankfully Tezuka didn’t seem to notice.
After ordering and drinks, Fuji asked the question Tezuka both dreaded and anticipated. “So, how was the interview?”
Coughing a little Tezuka wiped his mouth. “Uh, it’s been rescheduled.”
Fuji cocked an eyebrow. “Really, why? Did you meet the writer?”
Tezuka thought about his options. Tell Fuji, suffer horrible ‘I-told-you-so’s’ or not tell him and deal with it himself. Looking up he saw the evil smirk and the curious look on his friends face. Decision made… “No, they got caught up in something I believe. He called and asked for a new time. I agreed.”
‘Likely story,’ Fuji thought, ‘I don’t believe a word of it…’
They finished eating their meals in small talk. Bidding each other a good bye as they left the restaurant and they parted ways.
Fuji looked at his cell phone as he got in his car. ‘ showed up, half ready to down a bottle of liquor. And Tezuka lied about his interviewer.’ Starting the car he drove off. ‘That idiot better not of done anything stupid again…’
:::::::::::::::::::::
came out of the bathroom with a towel snuggly around her body. She spun around, grabbing her hair brush, using it as a microphone. Her wet her whipped around her as she danced around the room, singing the song that blared out of the radio. Belting out a few more lines before it turned into a loud hum, she made her way to the dresser. Briefly wondering if it was odd for her to have a dresser, with her own clothes, in Fuji’s house. Dismissing it as nothing she took things out, throwing it onto the bed, things she needed to wear with her dress tonight. A particular part of the song came on, and she quickly went back to singing and dancing.
“Well, if I’d know the show was starting I’d of come back earlier…”
quickly turned, startled by the voice. Laughing she turned the music down. “Sorry, it was sold out anyways.”
Fuji chuckled, pushing himself off the door frame. “You look lively…”
Finally using her brush for it’s actual purpose she sat on the bed crossing her legs. “Of course. I get to go out tonight, in a beautiful dress with my favorite guy.”
Fuji smiled as he laid behind her on the bed. He knew he was about to ruin her mood but he had to know. Had to know if what he was setting up tonight was worth it, that it wouldn’t hurt her too bad. “Ne, …” She turned back unnerved by his serious tone. “Do you still love him?”
Eyes wide she quickly turned away. “Him? Him who? I mean how am I suppose to know who you are…”
“Tezuka…” Fuji interrupted, never taking his eyes of her back. “Do you still love him?” let her hands fall to her lap. Everyone knew she liked Tezuka (besides the boy himself) back in school, but only Fuji knew how much.
“What if he has a girlfriend?” The young girl fiddled with the books on the shelf.
“He doesn’t. Lord, , you’d think you weren’t around us all 24/7.” Fuji leaned against the wall.
“What about that Naomi? He’s with her a lot, and she’s all giggly and touchy. Just like a girlfriend.”
“She’s his lab partner and he always complains about her to me. I doubt they’re going out, he said he’s going to buy her a muzzle…” looked at the boy doubtfully.
“Tezuka would never say something like that.” She finished putting the books away.
Fuji smiled as the two left the library, “I know I made that part up, but he does wish she would stop acting so close.”
sighed as another day passed and her heart just couldn’t get enough of Tezuka Kunimitsu.
Fuji sat up and looked over the womans face. “Do you, ?”
bit her lip as she remembered that day almost a year before Tezuka made his ‘big’ announcement.
“I thought you were going to finally confess, .” Fuji looked down at the girl laying on her back in the grass.
“I was…” She kept her arms over her eyes, blocking out the sun. “There was already another girl there…”
Fuji sat beside her and sighed, this was not turning out like he had hoped. “You could have still done it, after he denied her.”
Shaking her head the young girl tried not to cry. Why did this have to be so hard? “He said…” She took a deep breath. “He told her that he didn’t have time for a girlfriend right now. He wanted to focus on studies and tennis.” She finally turned her head to look towards her friend.
Fuji frowned as he tapped her forehead. “Maybe he just needs the right girl to ask him.”
“I can’t be a burden to Tezuka.” stood up and brushed off her skirt. “I will tell him when the time is right. After we graduate.”
Fuji stood with her. “What if he has a girlfriend by then?”
spun to her friend and grinned. “Well, I’ll just win him back. Cause…”
She looked back at her friend on the bed, eyes watery. “I love him more and more every day…” She leaned her head down holding her hand over her eyes. “That day… that day he told me he was leaving… I had called him out to finally tell him…” She shook her head as her throat tightened. “So stupid, huh. Going to tell him I love him and he just calmly tells me he’s leaving…just like that…”
Fuji wrapped his arms around the silently crying girl.
:::::::::::::::::::::
Later that night as finished fixing her hair she sighed. “Fuji, can we stop at my house on the way.”
He walked up behind her and smiled. “For what? You don’t like the dress?”
“No I love it.” She spun and smiled. “Does it look good?” He nodded and she grabbed her shawl. “I need to pick up a necklace and some earrings. I don’t have any here.”
:::::::::::::::::::::
As Fuji waited in the car, ran into her apartment and started searching her jewelry box.
Nothing seemed to feel right. Her eyes caught onto the separate black box off to the side. ‘Would it be weird to wear it?’ Opening it up there was a gorgeous necklace and earring set. It was odd, the day of her twentieth birthday a gift arrived at her parents house.
“, there is a package here for you…”
who had come home from school for the weekend looked down at the average size brown box. “Whose it from?”
Her mother shrugged and left the kitchen.
“Maybe, it’s a bomb!” leaned down putting her ear up against the top. “It’s not ticking…” Carefully she opened it, digging through the packing peanuts she came upon a velvety block box.
Taking out the box thought of who it could be from. Opening it her eyes nearly popped out of her scull. She knew this set. When she was shopping one Christmas, lord she had to only been fifteen, she had saw it. It was in a real jewelry store window, and it cost entirely too much for a teenage. But it was beautiful, she didn’t dare let her fingers touch the glittery gems.
She popped the earrings in her ears and brought the box out to the car. That day nearly five years ago, she tore that shipping box apart, looking for a name. never found out who sent her now most precious gift. Yet she never wore it, it never seemed right to wear something she couldn’t thank someone for. “I need your help.” She got back into the car and turned her back to Fuji. “Put this on for me.”
He took the box and opened. “This is…”
nodded. “Just put it on please, we’re going to be late.”
Fuji placed it around her neck and clipped it. Starting the car he looked over the woman in the passenger seat. He wondered why she picked that to wear. He knew she didn’t know where it came from, but he had. He’d known since he got that phone call that day.
“Fuji Syuusuke! Is this from you? It’s beautiful, how did you know? Did I tell you?”
Fuji looked confused as he sat in his hotel room. “I wish I knew what I did that made you this excited. Sadly, I can not take credit for anything, because I know I’ve done nothing that exciting…”
“So you didn’t send me this necklace?”
“Nope…”
frowned, “oh…”. The moment he hung up, he remembered the strange phone call he got little over a month before. A phone call from a oddly nervous ex-captain of his.
“Well, then lets go…” Fuji smirked as he drove off, ‘this is turning out to be more interesting than I imagined.’
:::::::::::::::::::::
Fuji escorted his date into the huge banquette hall. held onto his arm and smiled as he began to introduce her. Several people asked if she was his girlfriend, she’d giggle and shake her head. Commenting on how he wished she was. He would nod in mock hurt.
After about an hour his eyes continued to scan the hall. noticed his odd behavior and frowned. “Is something wrong?”
He shook his head, smiling. “Not at all.” She raised an eyebrow.
“Really, because it looks to me that you are looking for someone. Am I just a stand in date, Fuji Syuusuke. Cause I’ll have you know, I would be highly offended that I was not informed before hand.” She smirked up at him as he laughed lightly.
Kissing her forehead and let his eyes flicker to the man that just entered the room. “No, you are far to good to be a stand in.” He muttered as he noticed Tezuka had found him.
:::::::::::::::::::::
Tezuka spotted his old classmate and decided to make his way towards him. Yet, as he walked towards them he was stopped by boobs.
“Kumimitsu, you never come to these events! I’m so glad I caught you.” Tezuka almost growled as Aina attached herself to his arm.
This was all his agents fault, the man had insisted that he needed to get out on the dating scene. And this….this woman, had been who he suggested. Tezuka had stupidly accepted to go on a date with the large breasted office assistant. He had never regretted anything more in his life, well maybe there was one other thing he regretted more.
As he allowed his leech to blab his ear off he continued his way across the hall. ‘Maybe Fuji is still in contact with …’ He sighed and frowned. He was hoping to get a look at Fuji’s date before he stumbled upon them, but it seemed that every time he thought he could see her someone would block him.
“Kumimitsu , did you bring a date?” He looked down at Aina, shaking his head no but not offering her any words. “Oh! Then you can be my date!” She proclaimed happily.
“You came alone?” He asked doubtfully. And was proven right when she giggled shaking her head no.
“But he’s such a bore. Talking about this and that, nothing like what I want to do.” He sighed and wondered what this woman saw in him. What ever it was he wished she wouldn’t see it anymore.
:::::::::::::::::::::
As Fuji discretely watched Tezuka close in he frowned slightly at the airhead attached to his arm. He had taken it into consideration that Tezuka might have brought a date, but he didn’t expect her to be so…flashy. ‘Her chest is nearly falling out of her dress!’ He thought a bit disgusted. As he got closer Fuji sighed and turned to get to turn her attention to him. “…”
The young woman smiled at him as she took a sip of her champagne. “Yes? What’s wrong?”
Looking at her with fond eyes he gently placed his hand on her shoulder. “I don’t like it when you lie.” She looked at him oddly. “And I hope you don’t hate me after this night is through.” Before she could comment on his weirdness he put his arm around her waist and pulled her to him.
“Hello, Fuji.” She froze at the voice she knew so well.
Fuji turned, acting as if he hadn’t noticed the man at all. “Oh, hello Tezuka! When did you arrive?” As the perfect gentleman that he was pretending to be Fuji looked down at . Tezuka‘s eyes followed only to widened at the sight of the girl. “This is , but you two already know each other. So I suppose this is like a mini reunion.”
felt her fury raise to a new level. After her brief staring contest with Tezuka she glanced at Fuji. That single look promising years and years of horrible, painful payback. Now she knew why Fuji called her a liar. ‘Bastard…’
‘Fuji…and …’ Aina was completely forgotten as Tezuka let his mind wrap itself around this development. His voice nearly cracked when he spoke next, but then again he didn’t really know what he was saying. “ is your girlfriend?”
shot a look at Tezuka then back to Fuji. ‘What the hell is going on?’ She was about to deny the statement but Fuji just smiled and pulled her closer.
“Is this your girlfriend, Tezuka?” Fuji successfully avoided the question. His eyes landed on the woman who was growing more and more annoyed at being ignored. When she was addressed as his girlfriend her eyes nearly turned into stars. Fuji turned his eyes back to his ex captain. “She’s…lovely.”
Tezuka didn’t deny it, still too lost in his mind. gripped the stem of her glass tightly, almost feeling it shatter under her fingers. Fuji frowned and removed the glass from her hand, giving it to a server. Not looking up from the ground excused herself leaving the three alone.
Tezuka went to follow her but Fuji beat him too it. “Excuse me for a moment, I better go check on her.”
As if realizing that, yes, Fuji was ’s boyfriend, Tezuka froze again. ‘That’s his job.’
“Well, they are odd…” Aina turned towards Tezuka. “Don’t you agree? I mean did you see her! She probably didn’t even own the jewelry she was wearing.”
Tezuka seemed to stop when he was about to tell the girl to be quiet. ‘Jewelry… was wearing…’ He thought back and he smiled sadly. ‘I was right, they look beautiful on her…’ He pulled his arm free from the bouncy ones a grip.
“What…” She frowned and he glanced back at her.
“Sorry, Aina, this would never work. You’re really not my type.” The woman fumed as Tezuka set off to try to find Fuji and . He had to get a few things straight.

grabbed another glass a champagne as she furiously walked towards the gardens. Fuji was not far behind, and sighed as the girl downed another drink. ‘ is going to get drunk…’
Once reaching the doors she flew them open and took a deep inhale of the cold night air. She heard the male exit behind her and took one more deep breath before turning towards him. “What is the meaning of this!”
Fuji flinched at the tone but smiled nonetheless. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He played innocent as he took a seat on a nearby chair.
“Do not play stupid with me Fuji.” She growled, keeping her glare focused on him. “Nothing in your life is a coincidence! What are you planning!” She gently rubbed her temples as she tried to calm down, it would do no good to yell.
Unknown to her Tezuka had come upon the couple and was about to make his presences known. However he was rooted to the ground with one look from Fuji.
“I don’t know how this is my fault…” Fuji said crossing his arms and looking back towards , glancing at the figure behind her every now and then.
“Syuusuke…” She said in a sad voice. “You expect me to believe that only this morning you ask me if I still love him and you didn’t know he’d be here tonight?” She let her hands fall lifelessly to her sides. “Was this some sort of plan to make me forget about him, showing me his ridicules girlfriend and rubbing it in my face?” Fuji stood but took a step away from him. “Why did you do that…” She whispered.
Tezuka wanted to do nothing more than hold her and scold Fuji for making her upset in such a way. Then again this was partially his fault. ‘Wait…she loved me..’ He took a step from the darkness. “What did you say…”
whipped around, yelling in her mind at her stupidity, when she was hit with a wave a dizziness. After she realized there was only one Tezuka she looked away. “What do you need, Tezuka?”
He took another step towards her when she looked ready to topple over but stopped when she spoke. “What did you just say to Fuji? Was it true?”
She blushed, ‘how long had he been there.’ Then turned glaring at Fuji, ‘he knew!’ Her hands balled into fist, normally she would never be so angry but the champagne was taking its toll. “I didn’t know you’d grown accustom to eavesdropping Tezuka and I didn’t know you were so callous Fuji. If you two were planning on making me feel like a bigger fool than I did all those years ago. Congratulations, because I do…”
Both Tezuka and Fuji frowned. “It’s not like that…”
She stopped whomever tried to explain. It didn’t matter who it was, and she couldn’t really tell with her mind becoming so foggy. “Forget it, thank you for the evening Fuji and it was a pleasure seeing you again Tezuka.” She turned and left, gently pushing her way through the crowd.
The two men looked at each other but neither made to move. Fuji stared up, right into his ex captains eyes. “If you don’t chase her this time…” His sly, cunning face gone. Replaced with those serious blue eyes. “I will and I wont give her to anyone…ever…”
Tezuka didn’t even think twice as his feet started to move and he flew out into the hall after . This time…this time he wouldn’t let her get away.
