The Smile When You Tore Me Apart

“I’ll come back for you I promise! Just wait for me okay,” stated a guy with black/green hair and hazel eyes, known as Echizen Ryoga.

“I will be waiting then,” said a girl with blonde hair and green-blue eyes.

“Remember I love you ,” said Ryoga, smiling, kissing her on her forehead before running to catch his plane.

It would be a few years later when she saw him on the television as a tennis star. Echizen Ryoga, the adopted son of Echizen Nanjirou (AKA the Samurai) and older brother of Echizen Ryoma (AKA the Prince of Tennis) was one of the top pros running around the world. She could not help but notice that the last time he contacted her was when he was working on a cruise and meeting up with his younger brother and his teammates. also couldn’t help but notice a different girl hanging on his arm every time he was interviewed on television.

She was not a jealous person.

! Your hand is bleeding,” exclaimed her younger sister, , running over to her.

“Oh,” said , simply.

, you have to be more careful! Your hands are important to you and your writing,” said .

“You’re right. And to think I’m supposed to be the older sibling,” said , laughing lightly.

“What made you do this in the first place,” asked .

“Nothing.” sighed but spotted what channel was on.

“You were watching him again weren’t you? I thought I told you that he was just a good for nothing that will never keep that promise to you.”

“Not now.”

“No, you listen to me. How many boys have you turned down? How many of them were good for you and actually cared for you? I don’t want you to be lonely forever,” said , wrapping her hand up.

“Did I not tell you I don’t care anymore?”

…then why exactly are you watching every single one of his matches and interviews?”

“…”

“And tell me why dad had to throw away all the tapes of those you recorded and kept hidden?”

“…”

“And do you know how many calls of his that mom had to lie to him or ignore them on purpose,” asked .

“He called?”

“That’s not the point! He makes you not you.” and stared at each other until the silence was broken by the phone. Her sister jumped up and looked at the caller id. She ignored it, until it went to the answering machine.

“Beep. Hey does still live here or what? It seems you are too busy with school and work to call me back, huh? Anyway Chibisuke wanted to invite you to one of his matches which is in New York…Beep.”

, you are not going to call him back,” said her mother entering the room.

“Che, using his brother just as an excuse to call, everyone knows that Ryoma is in Japan,” said , scoffing. ignored both of them and called the number left on the id, when both her mother and sister left the room fifteen minutes later.

“Hello,” asked a female’s voice. said nothing and hung up.

“I’m going to the library,” said , grabbing her bag leaving.

“We told her not to call,” sighed her mother. At the library, picked out a book and sat in one of the chairs and began reading Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice. But she was not really reading it. The library was the only place she could come to brood without her family bugging her. knows that she should just stop loving Ryoga, but it’s not as easy as it sounds. She already tried from the first time she saw him with a girl hanging on his arm, it did not work. Immersing herself in school, her job, reading and writing, trying to forget did not help either. It was his fault for his stupid face was everywhere on the television and he was the talk of a lot of the people she met at work.

, your clenching your teeth again,” said a voice. She looked up. Oh it was one of her good guy friends from school.

“Was I, ,” whispered .

“It is that guy again. The one that you won’t tell me about,” asked . did not reply. “Fine, do you want to get out of this library and get some food? I’ll pay.”

“Fine,” said , getting up and following her friend out. They went to a small family diner that frequented.

“So how’s the genius writer doing, besides the fact?”

“I’m fine,” said . While they were eating, could not help but feel that someone was watching them. She shrugged it off. and her friend parted ways so she could get home and he could get to work. She was walking home, making sure to walk extra slow for she knows it’ll be the Spanish Inquisition when she gets home courtesy of her sister.

, I knew I’d find you walking around aimlessly,” said his voice from behind. nearly froze in her tracks. She had two options—run home or talk to him. She did not have time to react when he was in front of her. “ have you been ignoring my calls…I’m hurt.” That last part was said in a teasing tone.

“I did not know you called, I’m barely home,” said , forcing her self to look anywhere but at him.

“Seriously though have you been that busy to ignore me,” asked Ryoga.

“Yes,” said , saying that before thinking.

“You are too busy with that boy huh,” said Ryoga. She looked up, not meaning to, but she heard what could have been a hint of jealously in his voice.

“What boy,” asked .

“The one that you were eating with at the diner.”

“Oh him. He’s just a friend,” said . So he was the one watching them, she knew that she wasn’t getting paranoid.

“So you didn’t forget our promise,” said Ryoga, more to himself than to her as if reassuring his mind.

“How could I,” snorted , bitterly. “Your on TV, in the newspapers, magazines, I could not forget your face especially since there was a different girl on your arm each time.”

“You saw that?”

“Of course I did,” snapped . “I watch all your matches, tape any that I can’t see, and read all your interviews. It’s hard to miss the person you love with a different girl every damn week. Do you know how hard it was for me? I could not listen to my sister, my parents, and my friends’ advice just to forget you. You said you’d come back and you promised. You said you loved me, but do you really? Am I just wasting my time waiting for you?” He just listened to her rant. He didn’t realize that he hurt her so much.

“I’m sorry, of course I still love you,” said Ryoga, taking her hands in his, but he saw her wince in pain. He noticed the bandage on her hand, the one put on. “Who did this to you? Tell me.”

“I did it.”

“Why,” said Ryoga, serious.

“I was angry and jealous, it just happened, not like you care.”

“Don’t care, don’t care…I thought you knew me better than that,” said Ryoga, hugging her close.

“You are doing it again, playing with my heart.”

“I’m not.”

“You’ve stolen it years ago and always had it since,” muttered . “Do you know how many boys I turned down?” He just hugged her tighter.

“I really am sorry.”

“You are going to leave to run around the world again, leaving me alone you jerk.” Ryoga suddenly felt something wet on his shoulder. Great, he made her cry.

“Don’t cry, please. I swear I’ll be coming back for you for good soon, I just need to finish some things up with Chibisuke,” said Ryoga.

“Get away from her now,” said neither Ryoga nor , it was , glaring. She was worried about her sister for she wasn’t home yet. “You freaking bastard, giving her more promises that you can’t keep.”

, go home, I’ll be there soon,” said . She was still hugging Ryoga.

“He’s not good for you, he’s killing you slowly,” said . “Let her go now Ryoga.” To and ’s surprise, Ryoga easily detached from himself and pushed her near .

remember I love you and I will be back for you,” said Ryoga, giving her a smile only meant for her before leaning down kissing her. hissed in anger. He then ran off. It was just like the last time he saw her.

“Ryoga, I love you so much,” cried . She kneeled on the ground, tears coming down her face. “Please come back for me…”
