Notice for Readers: I suppose this can be read as it own. But it might be a little confusing since I make references to a past which is explained in my other DN Present Over Past [which is Mai & Jirou’s story]. This is also a one-shot, that is split up into four parts.
Present Pastime
Part One
Jirou came into the room and quickly engulfed his wife into a hug. He sighed happily when he felt that his hands could no longer touch. “Not long now~” He said in a sing song voice.
Mai shook her head as she finished the dishes. “You say that everyday.” She dried her hands before she allowed her hand to trail over her bulging stomach.
“Hmm, can’t help it. I’m excited.” He turned her to face him and kissed her, his hand still lingering on her tummy. “Why is it taking so long?” He whined.
“You want him or her to be healthy right, so just bear with it.” She playfully slapped his arm. The door bell rang and Jirou reluctantly let go of his beautiful wife. Mai giggled lightly as she rubbed her belly. ‘Soon I’m going to have to take care of to babies.’
:::::::::::::::::::::
Mai walked into the hallway when minutes passed and Jirou still didn’t return. “Jirou who’s at the?”
Suddenly a tiny person flew at the woman. It took all of her strength not to topple over when the little being clung to her.
“AKIO!” “MAI!” The two men at the door rushed to the pregnant woman’s side.
Mai laughed nervously, as one of the men took the tiny person and Jirou helped steady her.
“I’m so sorry Mai. Akio apologize! I told you to be careful around Mai!” The tiny person looked down guiltily.
“I’m sorry Aunt Mai.” He mumbled as she smiled down at him.
“Awe, don’t be so mean Yuushi. I’m alright.” She held out her arms to make the point. “No harm.”
Akio peeked up at his father, waiting for him to cave. He always caved when it came to Aunt Mai. Sighing Oshitari gave it. “Fine, just be careful, she’s in a fragile condition.”
“Shesh, I’m not going to break!” Mai pouted. Akio grinned as he went back over to his aunt and the two walked off to the kitchen. Aunt Mai always had cookies when Akio was around.
Jirou watched the two walk away fondly, before helping Oshitari with his bags. “She has everyone wrapped around her finger normally.” He smiled over at his friend. “Now, that she’s pregnant it’s like ten times worse!”
Oshitari smiled at his friend, laughing lightly.
Jirou left him in their guest room as he went to join his wife in the kitchen.
Sighing again Oshitari took a seat on the bed. He was slightly jealous of Jirou. He thought back to the time when his ex was pregnant. It was nothing like the way Jirou and Mai were.
Renn had been a horrible bitch throughout her whole pregnancy. Then again, Renn had been a bitch throughout their entire relationship. He knew that if Jirou had not brought Mai to his engagement party, over five years ago, he’d still be in that horrible relationship.
Even with all of that Oshitari was relatively happy. He loved his son, Akio, and wouldn’t change anything in fear of losing him. He had managed to patch things up with Jirou and Mai had become like a sister to him.
He knew asking to come for a vacation was short notice but he needed to get away. He couldn’t think of a better place then here. It was always bubbly happy here and always peaceful.
Just as the thought crossed his mind there was loud bang that had him jumping to his feet.
“MAIIIIIIIIIIIIIII! Where is my MAI?” Came the singing voice of someone Oshitari didn’t know. In an instant he was out of the bed room and into the hall.
He stopped dead in his tracks as he took in the person who just, loudly, entered the house.
A woman about two or three years younger than him self stood, hand on her hip. She looked freakishly like Mai. Her eyes turned to him and they locked eyes. ‘Except those eyes.’ He thought as he was hypnotized by the sparkling green orbs.
“Ohhhh.” She smirked. “You aren’t my Mai or her little cute puppy hubby.” Before Oshitari could comment, not even sure if he could form words.
Mai shrieked from across the hall. Akio covered his ears as Mai quickly wobbled up to the woman. Then pulled her into an awkward hug. (Damn big tummies) The two woman started to talk at speeds, until now, Oshitari didn’t know was possible.
Before he knew it the two women had their attention on him. “So who’s the star struck guy?”
Mai held the hand of a pestering Akio, ‘how dare this strange woman take away my Aunt Mai’s attention from me.’
“Oh! You should know who that is! That’s Oshitari Yuushi and this is his son Akio!”
The woman’s eyes seemed to lighten. “Ah! I remember now!” She smiled at the two. “Nice to meet you, I’m . Mai’s favorite person and cousin!”
“Second favorite person!” Jirou yelled from the kitchen, causing to giggle.
Akio growled at the woman. “Third! I’m first!” The little boy pouted.
“Oh, and would you like to say forth?” ’s eyes twinkled with playfulness as she glanced towards Oshitari.
Oshitari seemed to come out of his daze, finally regaining his witty nature. “I would say I was first but I wouldn’t want Jirou to get in on our secret yet.” He winked towards Mai who just rolled her eyes and laughed.
“Is that so, hmm? I don’t know. Jirou’s ungodly adorable and from what I hear amazing in be?” Mai quickly covered her cousins mouth blushing madly.
“Okay, enough of that.” Mai stuttered out.
“Oh, but I would like to hear!” Jirou walked out from the kitchen grinning evilly. “Please do go on, -chan.”
Before either could continue Mai stomped her foot, still blushing. “Enough! I will not let you two pick on me!” She turned taking Akio to find something else to do.
“I better go grovel before she sends me to the couch.” Quickly giving a kiss on the cheek and a hug Jirou skipped off.
“Well, it nice to meet you Oshitari. You can just call me .” She went to walk past him to go to another guest room. “Let’s take care of each other our time here, ne?” She whispered slightly seductively as she passed him and entered the dark hallway.
:::::::::::::::::::::
“Awe, c’mon Mai-chan.” Oshitari leaned on the counter as Mai went about making lunch.
“You think you’d give it a rest, you know.” She rolled her eyes and pushed him out of her way with her belly.
“Yea!” Jirou hopped into the kitchen to help her. “You think after you were pregnant, all fat and round with my babies, he’d get it in his head that you’re mine.” He gave her a peck on the cheek. “So give it a rest?Yuushi~” He smirked, it was all in good fun. Oshitari didn’t really like Mai like that, he got over that fast. Jirou and Mai were too perfect for each other. But that didn’t mean that Oshitari didn’t like hitting on her, pregnant or not Mai was probably the perfect woman/wife/almost mother.
came running into the kitchen, Akio not far behind. “I won!” She proclaimed as she jumped up and down.
“You cheated!” Akio protested. simply stuck her tongue out at the young boy.
‘This woman on the other hand.’ Oshitari wanted to roll his eyes. They had been there for a little under a week and he had come to a very interesting conclusion. True Mai and looked extremely similar, but the two were complete opposites.
was loud and slightly obnoxious. She was rather sloppy and foul mouthed. ‘At least she curbed her language around Akio.’ From what he heard from Mai, popped up now and then to stay for a while. Then she would disappear for months, maybe she’d call maybe she wouldn’t. He could see the slight worry on Mai’s face as she talked about it.
Oshitari was brought out of his thoughts when waved her hand in front of his face. She was holding Akio on her hip when he came too. “Want to come play with us? We’re going to color.” He nodded and stood. He wasn’t to keen on leaving his son in the presets of a possible bad influence for too long.
As they sat in the living room, sprawled out on the ground next to Akio, Oshitari sat on the couch.
“Look -chan!” The tiny hand pointed to the colorful dinosaur on the page.
Scuffing slightly looked at him oddly. “Dinosaurs aren’t supposed to be orange!”
“Yea-huh!” The little boy argued back. “Plus, you colored yours brown.”
“What’s wrong with that?” She replied.
“That’s just boring.” He replied matter-of-factly.
Oshitari watched in amusement as the girl’s mouth fell open. “Boring huh? I’ll show you boring!” jumped up and grabbed the boy. Tickling him relentlessly. Oshitari couldn’t suppress the smile that graced his lips as he watched his son laughing and finally begging for mercy.
:::::::::::::::::::::
“-chan is cute isn’t she?” Jirou threw the tennis ball in the air and caught it.
Oshitari studied his friend for a moment. “Well, of course you’d say that, she’s almost identical to Mai. If I didn’t know better, I’d think they were twins or sisters at least.” He briefly wondered if they were actually going to play their game or if they were going to chit chat.
“Nah, I think my Mai is beautiful. I don’t see the likeness at all really. No offence to though, but my Mai is in a whole different ballpark.” He smirked as he readied himself to serve. “But my opinion may be kind of bias.”
The game went on for a decent amount of time, no one really keeping score. Neither had played in a while so it was just for fun. After they were done they took a seat on the grass by the courts. “Can’t believe you had a court constructed behind your house and you hardly use it.”
“Hmm, well can’t really have Mai running around with that tummy of hers.” He tapped his chin. “Though she’d look adorable in the tennis gear.” Oshitari just shook his head and smiled. “Anyway, about -chan?”
“Are you trying to set me up, Jirou?” The man in question just grinned. “Now, why would you do that?”
Scratching the back of his head Jirou looked towards the sky. “You know I can’t say no to Mai?”
Oshitari just nodded, his suspicious were right, Mai did have everyone around her perfectly manicured finger. “I don’t know Jirou.”
“C’mon Yuushi, have you been on a date since Akio was born? -chan isn’t a bad choice, and if you don’t believe me, how could anyone related to Mai be anywhere near horrible to be around?” The fluffy headed male smiled. “Wouldn’t it be nice to go out to a nice dinner with a pretty girl and have a relaxing fun adult night?”
Oshitari sighed. Did it even matter if he said no? Mai had Jirou on her side and she was probably working on too.
:::::::::::::::::::::
Speak of the devil, who had been reincarnated as a now pregnant woman named Mai.
“So what do you think of Yuushi?” For an, about 8 months, pregnant woman Mai sure had a look on her face that spoke horrible mischief.
looked up from the computer screen, “Where’s Akio?”
“He’s taking a nap.” She made her way into the room and sat on the sofa by her cousin. “Don’t change the topic.”
Sighing turned to her. “He’s nice I suppose. We haven’t talked to each other much. I don’t think he is comfortable around me for some reason.”
Nodding Mai listened intently. “Probably because you look like me!” She beamed with such conviction it frightened a bit. “Maybe you two should go out and get to know each other better?”
knew that was coming and was waiting for it. “You want us to go on a date?”
“Sure! Why not? Wouldn’t it be nice to go out to eat with a good looking man?” She giggled and grinned. “You can’t have Jirou though, too bad for you. But Yuushi is, like, second best.”
“I doubt I could get Jirou’s eyes off of you, even if I tried.” shook her head laughing. “What makes you think he’d even ask me out?”
That evil glint glowed in her eyes again as Mai shrugged.
“Mai, what did you do?” was ignored as Mai wiggled her way to the edge of the couch to stand. “Mai! Seriously, you didn’t do anything, did you?” Again she was ignored as the other woman wobbled out of the room. “Damnit Mai!!”
:::::::::::::::::::::
“I don’t like getting into other peoples personal business, Mai.” Jirou mumbled as he pouted and sat next to her laying figure in their bed.
“Nor do I! But something has got to be done. Even if it’s not to each other, though I hope it is, they need to have some adult fun.” Mai curled on her side facing her hubby. “Plus, Oshitari needs to realize that I’m not the only woman on this earth that isn’t like that horrible thing he was engaged too.” Jirou just shook his head before climbing into bed with his wife.
:::::::::::::::::::::
“Hello!” chirped as she lifted up Akio. The young boy giggled before holding on as twirled him around.
Oshitari walked in on the two and again couldn’t help himself from smiling. “Good afternoon. You two look like you’re having fun!”
Nodding set the boy on the ground and he ran off to chat happily with his father. “He’s a fun kid and a good one too, must be the parenting.” Oshitari seemed to glow at the compliment to his son.
“Yeah, he turned out pretty well.” He mumbled as Akio ran off to play some games. “Don’t know if it is necessarily my doing.”
patted the male on the back and smiled. “Don’t give yourself too much credit now.” She said sarcastically. “I’m sure it has a lot to do with you.”
He found himself smiling again as the woman turned to walk away. “Hey, -chan?” She turned to him and suddenly he became shy. “Well, you know?” He rubbed the back of his neck. “I was talking to Jirou and he suggested that I go out to dinner.” He felt himself shift like a school boy and silently scolded himself. ‘What ever happened to the cocky playboy from high school?’ He thought briefly. “I mean, he said he’d watch Akio so, and it would be boring to go alone?”
smiled and held back the giggle. “They got to you too huh?” Oshitari sighed in relief at the relaxing tone of her voice. “Which one? Only Mai or did she get Jirou in on it too?”
Laughing lightly he took a seat. “Jirou is in on it too. But even so, I don’t think I’d mind going out to eat, so what do you say? Would you accompany me to dinner tomorrow night?”
smiled but nodded. “Sounds good!”
:::::::::::::::::::::
Maybe he should have picked another day. His mood was horrid. His mood was only slightly lifted when made her way down the steps. He had to admit she was rather gorgeous when she put her mind too it. Normally, she ran around in jeans and a t-shirt, with her hair in a pony tail. And while that was cute and all, right now she was down right beautiful. She had a causal yet classy dark green dress on, that cut off right above her knees. Her hair was pulled off her face, but lay in sheets down her back. She smiled when she caught him staring. “Are we going?”
Shaking his head to clear his mind, he then nodded and held out his arm, which she took and the two left the house.
Jirou and Mai peeked around the corner. “Wow, isn’t that your dress Mai?”
The woman giggled and nodded. “Looks better on her right now anyways.” She mumbled as she rubbed her tummy.
“Hmm, I don’t know about that. Still think it looked and would look better on you.” He grinned taking her in his arms and kissing her. He would have continued if there wasn’t a little tug at the bottom of his shirt.
“My Mai!” Akio growled and tried to pull Jirou off of her.
“Looks like I have more guys to worry about, huh?” Jirou grumbled as he scooped up the little body and carried him off to have dinner. Mai smiled and glanced back one last time before following her hubby off to the dinning room.
