A Sorta-Kinda Fairytale
The Empty Princess & the Idiotic Prince
Part Two
The week went by fairly smoothly. seemed to be hated by 90% of the girl population but seemed to get along well with most of the guys. She was now sitting in the library of her home reading a book. Yuushi sat a few feet away pretending she didn’t exist, which he had perfected the past week. Kaede came in and frowned but she soon smirked, she had a plan.
“Yuushi, darling. Why don’t you take -chan on a date?” nearly chocked on the water she had been sipping and Yuushi nearly dropped his book.
“That’s not necessary Kaede-san.” protested, fearing being alone with Yuushi for that long of time.
“Nonsense, it’s a wonderful idea, take her to that French restaurant you love.” Before either could protest anymore Kaede took ’s hand and began dragging her out of the room. “Yuushi be ready in 30 minutes.” Then left happily chatting with about cocktail dresses. Yuushi sighed but got up to get ready nonetheless.
Yuushi was breathless yet again by this girl who stood in front of him. His mother smirking behind her. stood before him in a little midnight blue dress that hugged her in all the right places and showed off just a little too much leg, which he enjoyed thoroughly. He looked her up and down, visibly, making her blush madly. Her hair fell over her shoulders and she quickly tucked it behind her ear.
“Go on you two; I called in reservations for you. Have fun.” She pushed the two into the car. It was the most awkward car ride either had ever ridden in and as they sat at the dinner table it didn’t seem to get any better.
‘What am I doing? Playing the silent game. I’m being too childish. Just talk to her, I don’t even know why I’m acting this way.’ He went to open his mouth.
“I’m sorry Yuushi-kun.” He looked up to see the girl looking down, fist holding tightly to the end of her dress. “I…I don’t know what I did but I’m sorry.” She shook her head, thanking God they were in a secluded area where only the waiters who took their orders could come. “Please don’t throw me away…” She whispered barely loud enough for him to hear.
His eyes went wide slightly before his mask fell into place. ‘What has this girl been through? Hadn’t she been told by my parents that she was staying with them regardless if I chose her in the end or not.’
“…” He reached his hand to take hers but quickly pulled it back when the waiter entered to serve their meals. She quickly wiped her teary eyes with the napkin and thanked the man for her meal. After that Yuushi had started to act normal, he chatted with her and even smiled at the things they were talking about.
had decided, she enjoyed that smile more than anything in the world and would do anything to make sure Yuushi wasn’t mad at her ever again. ‘That’s what friends are for right?’ She beamed.
Yuushi had never had a better ‘date’, he thought. They were taking a walk along the beach, not far from the restaurant. held her shoes in her hands, swinging them lightly back and forth, as they talked about Yuushi’s tennis matches that were coming up. He saw her shiver lightly and wrapped his jacket around her shoulders. She tried to give it back arguing that he would be cold but lost in the end.
‘Why do I have the urge to protect her?’ She thanked him, flashing the brightest smile he’d ever seen, one that would put the one she showed Atobe to shame. It was then that Yuushi had decided he liked her smiling face and he would do nothing to bring that look of complete distress to her face again. He would protect her always. ‘That’s what friends are for right?’ He thought as they turned to walk back towards the car.
:::::::::::::::::::::
“, we’re going to be late for the game!” ran out the door and jumped into the car next to Yuushi.
“Sorry…” She panted lightly pulling her hair into a messy ponytail as they drove off. was going to Yuushi’s tennis match. She had seen the team practice a few times the past month or so but she was excited to see them play in a real match. They pulled up to the tennis park and started to make their way to where they were meeting the rest of the team.
“-senpai?” turned around to see a short blue haired boy with a green sweat band around his forehead.
“Do you know him ?” She nodded and smiled towards him.
“Dan-kun, hello.” The little boy smiled.
“Lucky~ if it isn’t -chan!” Sengoku Kiyosumi came up from behind Dan and put his arm around ’s shoulder. “Was wondering where the cutest girl in school ran off too. You had us worried; hope you don’t run into Jin, he was fuming.” shrugged his arm off her shoulder, side glancing at Yuushi.
“Ah, sorry you two but we have to go, Yuushi-kun has to meet the team. It was nice seeing you though.” She took Yuushi’s arm and walked away.
“Hmm, unlucky~.” Sengoku said watching them walk away.
Yuushi looked down at the girl who clung lightly to his arm. ‘What does she have to do with that Jin boy?’ Before he could ask he was right in front of his teammates.
“Arn~ Ore-sama’s lady luck has come to cheer him on.” Atobe took ’s hand and kissed it, making her cheeks tint lightly.
Yuushi took his arm away from and turned to the team. “We have to sign in don’t we?” Atobe smirked and looked up in confusion.
After they won stood mouth hanging open. She couldn’t believe it, they were amazing! She didn’t know tennis could be so breathtaking! She bounced over to the team as they left the gated area.
“Wow! Congratulations! You guys were so cool!” She smiled up at Yuushi.
“Well, let’s go celebrate!” Gakuto shouted as they all made their way to leave. When they were coming towards the exit of the parks all the boys stopped.
“Ar~n, is there something Ore-sama can help you with?” squeezed past the taller boys and looked at who Atobe was talking too.
“Che, brat.” pouted and walked towards the boy throwing an apology look back at Yuushi.
“Hello, Jin…” The mean looking eyes softened as he looked at the girl, this didn’t go unnoticed by Yuushi or Atobe.
“Pulled a decent disappearing act. Parents acted like they never knew you.” looked down, depression that she had pushed away for months coming on strong.
Jin grumbled a bit. “That brat Dan was worried, kept complaining that he missed you.” smiled slightly knowing that in his own way Jin was telling her he was worried as well. He lifted his hand and ruffled her hair. Someone walked up next to her and she looked over, Jin’s hand still on her head.
“Ah! Yuushi!” She turned towards Jin who finally removed his hand from her head and eyed her suspiciously. She giggled. “It’s okay Jin.” She knew he was worried that she was in some sort of trouble. “I have to go! But I’ll stop by the shop okay?” She smiled and walked after the team as they left.
:::::::::::::::::::::
‘Maybe, he’s bipolar.’ thought in class that next week. Once again Yuushi had ignored her completely. She sighed, laying her head on her desk.
“-chan, are you alright?” She smiled and turned to Choutarou.
“Yup! Just tired. Kaede-san suggested a book yesterday and I was up all night reading it.” Choutarou laughed lightly patting her shoulder.
“You’re coming to practice right?” nodded. She needed to ask Yuushi something and the best time would be after practice on their way home. The end of the day came faster than she thought it would. Choutarou offered to walk her to the courts but she had declined, she had clean up duty.
She sighed as she finally finished and made her short trip to the courts. Peeking her head around the wall she frowned - Yuushi wasn’t there.
“Ah, -chan. Looking for Ore-sama?” giggled and walked over to Atobe shaking her head.
“Do you know where Yuushi-kun is?” Atobe had a mischievous look in his eyes as he answered her.
“Sure Ore-sama knows all. Let me show you.” He held out his arm that she took with out hesitation. “He’s around here somewhere looking for a fly ball.” Atobe said in his calm voice. He heard gasp lightly and he smirked. ‘Found him.’
Her hands around Atobe’s arm tightened. Indeed they had found Yuushi but he wasn’t alone. He had a girl pinned up against the tree and was kissing her rather passionately. Atobe coughed bring attention their way. panicked when Yuushi turned looking at them, surprise and anger written in his eyes.
“Ah…I…” couldn’t form words, what was this pain in her chest? She looked up again and smiled sadly. “Sorry, to have disturbed you, Oshitari-san.” She let go of Atobe’s arm and took off running back to the courts.
Atobe’s smirk grew as Yuushi rubbed his forehead. Right now he was wishing for that look of distress that he had seen on ’s face before because that face he saw just now, the hurt and betrayal that he had seen in her eyes, was far worse. The girl he had been kissing took his hand which he quickly let go of.
“Get out of here.” The girl pouted and went to protest but couldn’t. “Now!” She turned and walked off in a huff. “Atobe…” Yuushi growled out between clenched teeth.
Atobe shrugged and returned Yuushi’s glare. “You were disrespecting her. She had a right to know. Again even if you don’t love her, you should at least be polite enough to take your ‘fun’ in private.” Atobe ran his hand through his hair and walked away.
had ignored the looks and voices of concern from the other tennis members as she collected her things and ran off the courts. She finally slowed down, walking towards her ‘home’. She bit her lip, why did she want to cry? Looking down as she walked she thought back, she knew that girl, Sakamoto Misao. It was the one that always gave her the most grief. Telling her how she wasn’t good enough for Yuushi, telling her he could never love her. held her bag close to her chest as rain started to pour on her head.
She laughed bitterly. “Not only did he prove to her that she was right but he made me look like a complete fool.” She looked up at the sky and let its tears fall onto her face, mixing with her own. ‘What do I do now?’
didn’t know why or how she ended up there, she wasn’t really thinking when she was walking but she was there, and soaked. The door opened with the bells chiming.
“Welco…” The young looking woman from behind the counter stopped when she looked up and saw the girl. “Oh! -chan! Honey, get in here you will catch a cold!” She quickly grabbed a hand towel and began wiping off the girls face.
“Thank you, Yuuki-chan.” The woman quickly locked the shop door, turning the sign to closed and began dragging upstairs, insisting she get dry before she got sick. sat on the couch, in borrowed dry clothes and a blanket, as she sipped on the warm tea in her hands. had tried to decline but Yuuki insisted she spend the night since the rain was only getting worse by the second.
“Anou, Yuuki-chan I need to make a call then.” Yuuki smiled and led her to a phone she could use.
[RING RING]
“Hello, Oshitari residents.”
kept her voice low and calm. “Hello, may I speak to Kaede-san, this is .”
The woman on the other end inhaled sharply. “Yes, of course. Please wait a moment.” bit her lip holding the phone closely to her ear.
“-chan!” Kaede picked up the phone sounding frantic. “Where are you? Are you okay?”
smiled softly even though the woman couldn’t see. “Yes, I’m alright. Sorry to have worried you Kaede-san.” Kaede assured her it was alright as long as she was fine. When explained she had been caught in the rain and came to a friends house that was close by.
“Where are you dear? I’ll send Yuushi to pick you up. He shouldn’t have let you walk home alone anyway.” ’s body stiffened a little remembering again why she had run away from the courts alone in the first place.
“Anou, Kaede-san. If it would be alright I’d like to spend the night here. It’s late and Yuuki-chan said it was fine, she has wanted to catch up with me for a while.” Kaede was quiet for a moment.
“, is everything okay? You seem upset?” Now Kaede was concerned, not only was her son acting weird ever since he arrived home without , but now was on the phone and she didn’t quite sound herself. Kaede was about to say should come home when she heard another woman in ’s background.
“-chan! I am baking your favorite cake! You haven’t been by in such a long time I took it off the menu!”
Kaede sighed lightly, whatever was bothering maybe she needed some time alone to solve it. “Of course you can stay there dear. As long as you promise to get to school on time tomorrow and you call if you need anything.” smiled a thankful smile.
“Thank you Kaede-san. I will come home directly after school tomorrow.” They bid each other quick goodnights and hung up.
Jin stood in the doorway. “Che, what are you doing here brat?” turned to him smiling sheepishly.
“Jin, -chan is spending the night! Isn’t that wonderful?” Yuuki yelled from the kitchen.
“Che, stupid woman acting all excited over something that happened all the time.” pouted.
“Be nicer to your mother Jin!” Smacking him lightly on the arm.
:::::::::::::::::::::
sat on the roof eating a piece of the cake Yuuki had made.
“What happened now brat?” Jin climbed out of the window sitting a few feet from her smoking a cigarette.
“You shouldn’t smoke Jin.” He rolled his eyes.
“You should worry about yourself.” He side glanced at her. use to come here when things got too rough at home and she only sat on the roof top when it was really, really, bad. He reached over patting her head again, but this time it didn’t seem like she was going to talk about it.
had finally fallen asleep, tucked away in Jin’s bed; he said he wasn’t going to sleep anyway. He took one last look at her and went to leave the room. He had a feeling as to why was here and he was going to pay Oshitari Yuushi a visit.
“Jin…” He stopped and looked down at the small hand holding onto his sleeve. “Promise me you won’t do anything.” She looked at him with pleading eyes. “I will fix this on my own, I can this time. Just let me…please…”
He growled pushing her back to lie down again and covered her. “I won’t do anything, for now.” He whispered leaving the room. He couldn’t help it, she was like a little sister, and he always lost to those eyes.
:::::::::::::::::::::
The next day Yuuki had decided to drive to school. They pulled up to the huge gates. “Whoa, -chan! It’s beautiful!” Yuuki smiled leaning over kissing the girl on the cheek. “Come back whenever you want, you know our doors are always open for you, honey.” With that got out of the car waving to Yuuki as she drove off.
smiled to herself then sighed as she prepared herself for the long hard day she knew she was facing. She was sitting in class and she could feel Choutarou throwing worried looks at her. She could tell he didn’t hear about what had happened yesterday but that didn’t mean that half the girls in her class hadn’t. After repeating she was fine and smiling at him he finally stopped asking but still kept an eye on her. The lunch bell rang and moments later heard a few girls gasp and giggle. She looked up to see Yuushi walking towards her.
‘What’s he doing here? He never comes here!’ She quickly grabbed her things and stood. “Choutarou-kun, I need to get some information from the library, I’ll be back later.” She held her bag close to her chest. She quickly walked past Yuushi side stepping away from his hand when he tried to stop her. “I have a report to research for Oshitari-san.” She mumbled leaving the room.
‘Oshitari-san, Oshitari-san! I hate when she calls me that!’ Yuushi growled in his mind.
“Oshitari-senpai, is -chan alright?” Oshitari just shrugged and walked out of the room to follow .
wasn’t looking where she was going and she ran right into someone. Falling onto her butt her bag and books falling everywhere.
“I’m sorry…” She muttered picking her things up. She heard a girl laugh as a foot kicked the book she was reaching for.
“Look who it is. Dear Oshitari-sama’s fiancée.” groaned in her mind. She knew that voice.
“Sakamoto-san…” went to grab her book again but Sakamoto pulled it behind her with her foot.
“What’s wrong sweetie? Did Oshitari-sama throw you away, so all the other regulars did as well?” flinched slightly then glared at the girl.
“Ar~n. What do we have here?” looked behind the girls and saw Atobe standing there. Atobe frowned lightly when he saw kneeling on the floor and a book behind Sakamoto. He bent down and picked up the book. “Is this yours ?”
She bit her lip and nodded lightly. “I can handle this myself, Atobe-senpai…” She muttered, slight bitterness in her voice. She wasn’t stupid she knew that Atobe knew what Oshitari was doing even before he led her to him. Oshitari stopped and was silently watching , Atobe and Sakamoto.
“Aren’t you going to do anything?” He turned around to see Choutarou standing next to him.
“How dare you speak to Atobe-sama like that!?” Sakamoto went to hit but her hand stopped mid way. Looking up she saw a hand attached to a wrist attached to her underclassman.
“I’m sorry Sakamoto-senpai but I can’t let you hurt -chan.” Choutarou said quietly as he let go and helped to her feet.
“Why are you all defending her? Because she’s Oshitari’s fiancée? He doesn’t even like her! He likes me!” looked down fringe covering her eyes.
“Are you really that dense Sakamoto-san?” All eyes turned to as her voice dripped like venom. “You think that you’ve ruined anything?” eyes met Sakamoto’s reflecting nothing but coldness. “Who ever said we liked each other? And who informed you that you were any better than me?”
“-chan…” Choutarou whispered seeing a side of he didn’t like. She walked past the girl and snatched her book from Atobe. “Thank you picking up my book Atobe-senpai and for your help the other day.” Atobe flinched at the cold stare he got from . She turned and faced the direction of the girl and Choutarou. “Thank you Choutarou-kun for your help as well.” She said a little less coldly. “Thank you Sakamoto-senpai for proving to me that indeed there are stupid, cold hearted people in this world.” She turned her attention to the area Oshitari stood out of view. “I don’t believe there’s anything I should thank you for Oshitari-san.” Oshitari looked down as walked away, her head held higher than before.
:::::::::::::::::::::
Atobe sat on the bench at practice at a complete loss. His plan had backfired. was suppose to be so upset when she saw Oshitari with that horrible Sakamoto and she was suppose to fall into his open arms. But in the end it was the complete opposite and what was this he felt? Guilt? He had never seen act the way she had this afternoon and he admitted it, he didn’t like it at all. The coldness in her voice and eyes made her seem…dead, void of all feelings.
“She’s not stupid, you know.” Atobe turned glaring eyes to Shishido, who had seen the ordeal the other day and was told of the incident this afternoon.
“Ore-sama never claimed that she was.”
Shishido laughed dryly. “You did. She figured it out that you knew that Oshitari was doing those things even before you led her to him. Basically, you set her up to look like a fool.”
Atobe’s eye widened he hadn’t thought of that. ‘Great now I feel like shit.’ He rubbed his forehead and let out a growl. ‘This was all Oshitari’s fault.’
Oshitari hit the tennis ball back as he played his practice match. ‘Nothing to thank me for! If she wasn’t my fiancée where would she be! If I hadn’t helped her…’ He suddenly stopped, thinking and moving. ‘…Me…I didn’t help her…mother did. If she’s not my fiancée…mother said she’d still be living with us. There’s nothing to tie her to me.’
“She can leave whenever she wants…” Oshitari whispered when it hit him, was never his in the first place.
:::::::::::::::::::::
‘It has been a month. A whole, long, dreadful month.’ Yuushi thought tapping his fingers on the lunch table. His eyes set on the girl a few tables away, who was smiling and laughing with a few boys that he knew were from his grade. He tapped his fingers harder and faster when she would touch one of them on the arm or they would put their arm around her neck playfully.
‘Why are you getting so annoyed!?’ He yelled at himself for the hundredth time in the last ten minutes. It wasn’t like he hadn’t tried to talk to but it seems the empty shell of a girl that he first met had gotten her spunk back. She was quite the girl in all actuality. She had a mouth on her that could make you stop dead in your tracks and said in her sweet voice made it ten times more powerful. She was smart and she took no nonsense when the matter was serious. When he had approached her a few days after the ‘incident’ she had clearly shot him down, in more than one way, and left him speechless in the hallway. Yuushi sighed. He was miserable and the only thing that brought a small amount of joy to his life was the fact that had also ignored and chewed out Atobe just as badly as she had him.
Yuushi looked back up just in time to see a boy lean down and whisper something into ’s ear. He could hear it cracking, his willpower, he was losing it. The other boy’s lips were too close, his hand was lying on her bare thigh and that slightly shocked look on ’s face was the breaking on Yuushi’s personal restraint. He stood up and made his way to the girl he’d been eyeing the entire time. caught a glimpse of Yuushi coming towards her, but what shocked her was the expression on his face; anger and jealousy.
“Yuu…” Before she could finish the boy next to her was basically thrown to the side and she was being pulled out of the cafeteria by her wrist.
“Yuushi, you’re hurting me.” She said lowly as he tugged her through hallways to a more secluded one. Without answering her he pushed her against the wall hands on both sides of her confiding her. gulped as she heard Yuushi breath coming out irregularly and his eyes seemed to be clouded. “Yuushi-kun…” She whispered fearing he would snap.
“You’re my fiancée!” He growled out. was taken back by the possessiveness in his voice.
It didn’t take long before she regained her nerve and wits. “And? You are mine as well. The word didn’t seem to mean much to you…” She crossed her arms and rolled her eyes.
“Like you cared! You were flaunting yourself around for Atobe, Jin and anyone else that looked your way.” Yuushi didn’t know what he was saying or where it was coming from. Okay, that was a lie these were things he had been thinking about since their engagement party. “At our own engagement you disappear with Atobe and the other day you spent the night at that boy’s house!”
’s face was red, not from embarrassment but anger. “How dare you…” Yuushi looked up surprised at the tone coming from the small girl. “How dare you suggest such things and assume things about me! Did it ever occur to you that I was not like every tramp and whore you seem to have all around you! I don’t flaunt myself in front of anyone!” She pushed on his chest sending him into the adjacent wall.
“Did you ever consider my feelings when you threw one of your petty fits and ignored me for days or weeks? Or when you had your tongue down the throat of the girl that made my life a living hell, only because I was your fiancée!” She shook her head looking down tears falling from her eyes her voice growing soft, full of sorrow. “Did you ever think that it was you I was trying to impress all the time? That I was trying to show you that I wasn’t as empty as you thought I was…that I was trying to get you to like me because I liked you…” She took a step back widening the distance between the two she laughed ironically. “They said you’re a genius, Yuushi…” She looked him in the eyes and he felt like he had just tore the wings from an angel. “I suppose your genius only applies to tennis…”
Yuushi reached for the girl but she backed away until her back hit the wall. “If you don’t like me that’s fine, I don’t blame you but you didn’t have to do that me. No one, not even someone like me, deserves to be treated that way.” She hugged herself suddenly feeling extremely vulnerable. “I could deal with being sold a hundred times over if I didn’t have to deal with this pain…” She whispered out as she crouched down hugging her knees. Her body trembled. “It actually feels like my heart is breaking…”
jumped slightly when she felt strong arms around her. Coming out of her confusion she pushed on Yuushi’s chest. “Yuushi, don’t do this…I don’t have the strength anymore…I can’t…” She sobbed lightly leaning her tired head on his shoulder.
“Then stop being so strong…” She fell onto her knees and into his tight embrace. “I am so sorry , so sorry. You’re right.” He laughed dryly into her neck. “I am an idiot and a jerk.” He leaned back and took her face in his hands; he felt his heart ache as he saw fresh tears fall down her cheeks. “Can we start over? I was confused, no girl ever made me confused before. I couldn’t stand it that others were looking at you, touching you or even talking to you. I wanted you to be mine, all mine, but I still didn’t know why I thought that way.” He wiped the tears from her cheeks and smiled a smile had never seen before on his face, a blissful smile. “But I do now…I’m sorry it took me so long but I never felt like this before and I didn’t understand…” He laid his forehead on hers. “Can I kiss you?”
took in a sharp breath, her lips trembled. Yuushi closed his eyes and smiled a pleading smile. He didn’t know why this was so important to him right now but it’s all he could think about. To feel her warm lips on his, maybe to him it would be a sign of forgiveness or the recognition that he could start anew with her. He just wanted to kiss her, feel her.
Her small voice broke his thoughts. “Will you kiss me like other girls?”
He opened his eyes, clear and focused, as he shook his head. “Never…”
She bit her lip and nodded lightly. Before she even finished nodding his lips were on hers. Nervously and hesitantly he pushed onto her trembling lips. He smiled; regaining his confidence as she lightly pushed back and opened her mouth giving him the permission to run his tongue over hers. They finally broke away, panting lightly, as he pulled her into his lap and locking his arms around her.
“I think, I might love you . More than even I thought possible.” Yuushi whispered into her ear as he ran his fingers through her soft hair. “I won’t let you go again…” He said in a serious tone. Her only answer was the tightening of her grip around his neck and the warm wet drops that he felt on his shoulder.
:::::::::::::::::::::
laughed as she finished her story, the young girls sitting in awe in front of her. “That’s really how you two came together?”
nodded smiling about to say something but stopped when there was a knock at the door. Atobe walked in smirking as the young girls quickly got up from their spots and continued what they were doing before.
“It’s time…” He smiled at her
stood in her beautiful white gown and took a deep breath. “How do I look?”
Atobe held his arm out to her and she took it glancing at herself once more in the mirror. “You look stunning, . Now let’s let that lucky fiancé of yours feast his eyes on you.”
laughed whole heartily as Atobe led her to the large wooden doors. They had become close friend in these past years. He slipped his arm from hers and kissed her cheek lightly. “Good luck…” He said as he disappeared back into the church leaving her alone.
“Ready?”
She turned to the two young boys who stood in front of the doors. “More than you know…” Taking a deep breath the huge wooden doors opened. As she looked up her eyes caught sight of the one who made her complete, made her feel real.
Oshitari Yuushi locked eyes with the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He smiled as she made her way towards him, entirely too slow for his taste, never letting their eyes part. His very own angel, the only one to ever capture his heart.
Finally, after what seemed like a life time, their lips met as it was announced.
“And I now pronounce you, husband and wife…” A loud cheer erupted in the church but eachother were the only thing the two young newlyweds were able to comprehend.
Or as the old saying goes…
And they lived happily ever after…
The End
