Raising Niou
The girl stood on the top step facing the closed door. She lifted her hand to knock but froze. She shook her head and walked back down the steps. As her foot hit the pavement at the bottom she groaned. Turning she walked back up the steps to stand in front of the door again. She lifted her fist to the door again. She was about to pull it away when a dog barked making her jump causing her to bang on the door. She froze, praying he wasn’t home. Sadly, the door opened and the man inside looked down oddly at her.
“What are you doing here?” He asked impatiently. She cringed at his cold tone. Only three months ago they were happily in love. “Well?” He asked annoyed
The woman shifted from foot to foot, refusing to look at him. She couldn’t find the right words. She wondered why they broke up, but they seemed to just grow apart. She couldn’t trust him; he couldn’t understand why she couldn’t. It was all just a huge messy ordeal. “I...”
Niou huffed and rolled his eyes. “Spit out !” He hated being this way towards her. Hated the way she flinched at his tone, but he couldn’t help it. She had always thought he was some horrible player that was just out to break her heart. She had pressed him so hard, and in the end he had done just that. By getting fed up at her accusations and breaking up with her.
“Well...” She whispered in a meek voice.
“Damnit ! What are you coming here for?” He hissed and she bit her lip. “We broke up over three months ago. THREE months!” She felt her body start to tremble as he continued his rant. “There’s no reason for you to be here! I have things to do and you?”
“MASAHARU, I’M PREGNANT!” She yelled finally breaking down. Tears rolled down her cheeks as her body was racked with tiny sobs. “I’m pregnant Masa?” She whispered.
The male just stood there staring at her. He was dumbfounded, “it’s mine?” He asked quietly.
She shot an angry glare up at him, the tears making his heart ache. “Screw you Niou!” She hissed and turned to leave. He reached out and pulled her back into his chest. “Let me go.” She said trying to hold the tears back.
“Damnit, ?” His arms held her tighter as his hand shifted to her stomach. “How far?”
“A little over three months.” She felt more tears fall and her head fell. “I don’t know what to do?” She admitted her hands clenching the handle of the bag she held. She couldn’t stop crying.
“Shhh?” He cooed gently into her ear as he turned her in his arms. He pulled her to his chest and rubbed his hand up and down her back. While the other held the back of her head. “Hush, its okay. Everything will be okay.” He pulled back and cupped her face in his palms. He wiped her tears with his thumbs and kissed her forehead. “I’ll take care of you?” He looked her right in the eye and she leaned her forehead on his. “Both of you.” He whispered his lips lightly kissing her eyes.
It took him an hour to calm her down enough to ask some questions. She nursed the glass of cold water in her hands. Her eyes were bright red and slightly swollen. He gently patted her head before taking a seat across from her. He put his elbows on his knees and leaned his chin on his intertwined hands. She refused to look at him and stared at the clear liquid in her glass.
“You went to a doctor?” He asked gently. She nodded and finally set the glass on the table in front of her.
“I thought it was the flu at first.” Her voice was nothing like the normal cheerful sound he had remembered. “I only found out about a week ago.” She fidgeted with her fingers in her lap. “I didn’t know what to do, but?” She glanced at the doorway when she heard someone enter.
“Hello, Masaharu?” A woman stopped in the doorway and froze. The woman looked at the two. “Oh, you’ve got company?” Niou looked from the new woman to .
stood quickly, and then regretted it when she got dizzy. She swayed a little but grabbed her handbag to leave. “Sorry to have bothered you.” She said quickly, trying to walk which was proving difficult with her world spinning.
“Hey, hey, wait ?” Niou got up to go after her. The new woman looked on in confusion and pressed her back to the wall when the two stumbled past.
“Sorry, Masa.” mumbled feeling tears come back to her eyes. “I didn’t mean to cause you more trouble.” He grabbed her arm stopping her from leaving.
“See you always think the worst of me!” He growled as he felt the anger he felt when they were going out and she always accused him of cheating. Sure she never outright said it she was sneaky about her comments but he got the hint. “You need to stop jumping to conclusions. And even if what you think is going on was, I would still keep my word.” He said sternly.
nodded she knew he would. She just didn’t know if she could take seeing him with another woman. She loved him, and that’s what had made her so suspicious of him in the first place. He was so handsome, smart and witty. Everyone instantly liked him and wanted to be around him. on the other hand, she was quiet and shy. She had a hard time opening up to people and most always kept to herself. How could someone like him love someone like her? “Sorry.” She whispered again causing him to sigh. She never understood. It was her calm sense of stability that held him together. He was a wreak without her, she was his balance.
The new woman peeked out at the two. Concerned that she had cause a problem. “Sorry, Masaharu. I will just come back when Renji is home.” Niou shook his head and pulled back through the living room.
“No it’s fine Reika. We’ll be upstairs. I’ll introduce you two properly another time.” He led up the steps by the wrist.
The woman nodded and watched the two go, ‘poor girl looks so upset.’ She thought before going into the living room to wait for Renji, her boyfriend.
Once they were in his room he sat her on the bed and closed the door. “She’s Renji’s girlfriend.” He handed her a bunch of tissues and crouched down in front of her. “You remember him right, my housemate.” She nodded and cleared her face with the soft fabric. He sat on the floor in front of her and crossed his arms over her knees. “You need to calm down okay.” She nodded, but the tears kept falling. He laid his chin on his crossed arms and smiled up at her. “The stress can’t be good for the baby.” He said teasingly. She let out a soft chuckle before sniffling and dabbing her face dry. She finally calmed down taking a few deep breaths.
Niou rubbed circles on her knees with his thumb, his forehead just resting on her legs. “What’s going to happen Masa?” She whispered poking at his stray hairs that sprawled out on her leg.
“Hmm…” He thought laying his head sideways on her legs and rubbing her calves. “For starters I have to make you fall in love with me again.” He smirked and wrapped his arms around her legs. “Then I suppose we have to figure out where would be the best place to raise a baby. And think of a name, oh and tell everyone! No one is gonna believe that I’m going to be a dad.” He froze and looked up at her wide eyed. “I’m gonna be a dad.” It seemed to just then hit him; he smiled a goofy smile causing to laugh.
She gently rubbed his hair and frowned uncertainly. “So, you’re okay with?with this?” She asked and he smirked before leaning up on his knees and kissing her softly on her lips. He mouthed a yes on her lips and she leaned down burying her face in his neck. “Then you don’t have to worry about the first part.” He sighed happily putting his arms around her waist and pulling her into his lap on the floor.
He held her to his body and chuckled. “That’s good because I want to dote on you and love on you. I’m gonna want to touch your round stomach and cuddle with it.” She giggled at the thought. “And it would be hard to do if you don’t love me, don’t you think.” She nodded into his neck, her hair tickling his nose. “I’ve missed you .” He mumbled kissing the top of her head. “Oh, geez, I’m glad you knocked.” He said and she sat back looking at him oddly.
Suddenly her eyes widened. “You were watching me!” He rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.
“A neighbor called me and said there was a girl acting odd on my doorstep.” Her face turned a nice shade of red and he couldn’t help but lean over and kiss her cheek. “I was watching you from the window.” He admitted quietly. “I couldn’t help it; you seemed to be glowing beautifully.” He smirked, taking her hand and kissing her wrist before putting it around his neck. “Now I know why.” He brought his two hands to her belly and rubbed it gently. “This little guy is the cause.”
She pouted playfully and played with the hair above the back of his neck. “How do you know it’s a boy?” He smirked at her, wrapping his arms around her waist.
“My little men wouldn’t become anything but strong healthy boys.” She scoffed and rolled her eyes. Laying her head back on his shoulder she closed her eyes. She was exhausted, from all the stress and worry about how he’d react. She hadn’t slept properly in days. Soon her breath evened out giving Niou the heads up that she was asleep.
He was in the process of putting her into his bed when a knock came to his door and Renji peeked in. “Everything alright?” He asked looking over at the woman in the bed. “Reika said there was a girl who was really upset, she was worried she caused it.”
Niou nodded pulling the coves down and setting down. “Nah, everything’s good.” He climbed in with her and smirked back at his old friend. “I’ll tell ya about it later.” The other man nodded then turned the lights off for the two and left.
Niou pulled the woman in his bed to him and wrapped the blankets around them both. “Wow?” He muttered as he lay on his back, one arm up behind his head, the other wrapped around holding her firmly against him. “I’m gonna be a dad.” That goofy grin came back to his face as he stared at the ceiling.

Niou woke the next morning, ready to get up and tell Renji about his wacky dream, but something stopped him from rising from the bed. He looked down to his side at first shocked at the woman who was curled up against him, and then he remembered, ‘it wasn’t a dream.’ He lowered his head burying his nose into her thick locks. He took a sharp inhale taking in the scent of the woman he had missed dearly. He curled his arm her around and made a promise to himself. ‘I’ll make this work.’ No matter how he had to prove to her that he’d never cheat on her he’d do it. He should never have let her go in the first place. But he was given a second chance and he wasn’t letting it go.
“Masa?I can’t?breathe?” He immediately loosened his hold on her and smiled down at her. She peeked up at him before burying her head back into his chest.
He chuckled and gently ran his fingers through her hair. “Sorry I got over excited?” He sighed contently, when there was another knock at his door.
After he told the knocker to come in Reika popped her head in. She smiled and held up a cell phone. “It’s been ringing all morning.” She handed it to Niou knowing it was his. Reika giggled when hid herself under the covers.
was embarrassed that the woman had seen her react that way yesterday. Niou chuckled as Reika left saying she had to get to a meeting. Niou flipped his phone open and frowned. “, why is someone calling me from your house?” The girl threw the covers off her and grabbed the phone. She quickly dialed the number back.
Niou jumped when he heard the voice yell from the other end. He growled and snatched the phone from the girl, ready to give the other person a nice headache. “What the hell!” He hissed into the phone. “I don’t know who you are but you have no right speaking to her like that!”
“Niou?” The male voice on the other end questioned. Niou looked at the phone before putting it back to her ear confused out of his mind. He looked over at who was biting her lip.
“, who is this?” He asked not bothering to cover the speaker of the phone. Before she could speak the other voice answered for her.
“It’s Hiroshi you dote! Why is my cousin at your house still?” Niou sighed and rubbed his forehead.
“Hey, Hiroshi. She’s my woman why wouldn’t she be at my house?” Niou grinned at the blushing girl beside him and lay back down in his bed. “Why are you at her house?”
Hiroshi was silent on the other end for a few moments before he spoke again. “So she told you?”
Niou pulled the girl back down to lay with him and rubbed his hands down her side. “Yeah.” He heard the man on the other end sigh in relief. “You’re staying there to watch over her?”
Yagyuu took a seat on the couch and let his head fall back. “Uh huh, she was pretty upset. It’s not like she could tell her parents without telling you first. So, I guess the response is a good one?”
snuggled into his chest pulling the covers up on them both. Niou smiled down at her before answering. “Yeah, I’m gonna be a dad.” He said again, still liking the sound of it. “Crazy huh?”
Yagyuu didn’t deny that it was insane but he congratulated him nonetheless. After a little more chit-chat they hung up and Niou poked the girl laying on him. “You have a good cousin.” nodded in agreement, she could always count on Hiroshi no matter what was going on. “We have to tell your parents.” He said sourly.
Niou didn’t get along with her parents. Her father was a jackass who always talked down to her, which could be one of the reasons she had horrible self confidence. Plus, her mother was a lousy slut, who tried to get into his pants when he had first met them.
Yet, he couldn’t find himself caring much. He had his back with him and right now that’s all that mattered to him. They’d worry about everything else later, when he got over the amazing buzz that ran through his system. “You’re gonna be a mom.” just shook her head, chuckling and letting her eyes close again. As her mind began to shut down she felt Niou kiss her forehead and snuggle against her. She also hard his whispering voice before she fell into her dreamland. “I love you, .”
A.N: As far as I know this is going to only be a one shot. But ya never know I might end up getting more idea’s for it and throwing some more out there.
