“What do you mean?” looked up from her notebook at her friend.
“I mean…it’s almost Valentine’s Day. Have you gotten chocolates for Momo-kun yet?” Rei, ’s oldest and dearest friend, sighed. ‘How ever got a boyfriend I’ll never understand.’
frowned. “I don’t think Momo even likes chocolate much.” She looked up thinking. “Oh! I’ll give him cheeseburgers! He likes those.” She nodded and grinned.
Rei’s jaw hit the ground. There was a light snort and chuckle from their other companion.
looked over frowning more. “What’s so funny little one?”
Echizen, who was lying down beside them, lifted his hat and smirked. “You are -senpai.” He sat up and stretched. “Only you would think to give your boyfriend a cheeseburger on Valentines Day.”
huffed and smacked the younger boy on the head. “You’re just jealous. You wish you didn’t get all those chocolates every year too. You end up having your dad eat them.” She stood and dusted off her skirt. “Why give someone something you know they don’t want? Just because it’s tradition? That’s a waste!”
“, other girls are going to try to give him chocolates too.” stomped off and Rei only sighed. “She really is too much isn’t she?”
Echizen just shook his head.
“Yo!” They turned towards the voice only to both sigh again. “You seen a cute girl around here? Usually in a daze?” Momo smiled as he thought about his girlfriend. “Long beautiful hair, pretty eyes…”
Rei ignored the rest of his rant and just pointed in the direction her silly friend stomped off. Momo nodded and took off in that direction.
“He has crazy timing doesn’t he?” Echizen mumbled before getting comfy back in the grass.

The next day sighed as she looked out the window in class. ‘I wish Momo was in my class.’ She smiled at the thought. She knew she was a little scatter brained and even more than a little odd. But Momo seemed to like that about her. She really loved him. That thought got her thinking more. ‘What if Momo doesn’t know I feel like this? What if this whole Valentines Day thing IS a big deal?’ glanced around the room.
“Yeah, I’m making it home made!” One girl blushed and held her hands to her cheeks.
“Oh, can I come over? I wanted to try it; I’m going to give it to Tezuka-senpai!” Another girl squealed.
“Oh, I was thinking about giving mine to Fuji-senpai.” Yet another girl said smiling.
“Doesn’t he have a girlfriend?” The second girl gasped.
“Yeah, but I want to take my chance. They aren’t good with each other anyway.” The last girl clasped her hands together. “And worst comes to worst I’ll just say I didn’t know he did.”
stared wide eyed at the girls. Remembering what Rei had said to her earlier and what the girl just said now. lightly bit her nail. ‘Maybe this was more important then I thought…’

Momo groaned in boredom as he turned off his game console. He looked over at his phone and smiled. Crawling over he grabbed it and laid on his back on the floor. Dialing the numbers he knew by heart he waited for someone to pick up on the other end.
hurried around her kitchen. This was harder then she thought. “I’ve never even made popcorn in the microwave.” She nearly dropped the bowl in her hand when her phone rang. Quickly picking it up, she steadied the bowl in her arms. “ speaking.”
“What luck I have.” Momo chuckled. “Just who I was calling for.”
smiled. “Hello Momo!”
“So I was thinking…we could go out to a movie or something. Nothing scary I promise, I only end up thinking what happened last Halloween.” Momo laughed as groaned but continued anyway. “So what do you say? If you’re not busy that is…”
was about to agree. Who would turn down a date with their boyfriend! Especially when he thought it up. Then she surveyed her surroundings. Ingredients were all over her counter, and all over herself. “I can’t…” She mumbled.
Momo noted the slightly depressed sound in her voice. “ …is everything okay? If something’s wrong I can come over.”
quickly panicked. ‘Momo was going to figure it all out if he came over now!’ “No! You can’t come over!” Realizing she probably sounded suspicious she laughed nervously. “I mean I’m helping my mom out with something. So I can’t hang out today. Sorry Momo…oh Mom needs my help gotta go!” She quickly hung up and nearly threw the phone away from her. “Whew! That was close.”
Momo looked at his phone in surprise. ‘That was…odd.’ He placed his phone back on the table and frowned. “ never turned me down before…” He sighed a rolled over, starting up his game again.

fell to the kitchen floor. In her hands was another failed batch of chocolate. She only had a few days! She wasn’t getting better, she was getting worse! It wasn’t supposed to be this hard. Girls do it all the time don’t they? Throwing away all of her mess, she cleaned up and went to her room. She not only wasted her whole weekend but she didn’t even get done what she set out to do. She turned to her side bit her lip. What if another girl gave Momo chocolates? What if …
An absurd image came to her mind of her boyfriend laughing hauntingly with some faceless girl. Skipping around merrily in a field of chocolate hearts.

Momo grabbed his girlfriend from behind. “Well, hello to you too.”
squealed and turned around. “Good morning!”
Wrapping his arms around her he smiled. “Not getting away!” He leaned down and kissed her cheek. “You okay? You acted weird on the phone the other day.”
The school bell rang as she nodded. “C’mon we’re gonna be late.” She couldn’t face him yet, she couldn’t even make him lousy chocolate.
Momo pouted but followed. ‘She’s acting weird…’

“Wahhh!” ran towards the tennis courts, she needed help. But who could she ask? ‘Rei is out of the question, she’d only laugh at me. And I doubt Echizen knows how to make anything.’ Peeking around the corner she spotted the tennis regulars. ‘Eek, Fuji-senpai kind of scares me, can’t ask the captain…’ Biting her lip she whimpered, looked like she was going to be out of luck. As she was about to walk off in defeat, someone walked by her current hiding place. ‘That’s it!’
Kaidoh was walking towards the courts when he was suddenly grabbed and pulled behind a building. “What the…” He looked down at the small girl whose eyes were determined. “-san?”
“Kaidoh-kun, you’ve got to help me!” She went on and explained her horrible dilemma.
Kaidoh raised an eyebrow, ‘she does know that I hate Momo, right?’
“So, will you help me please?” She put on her best pout plus puppy eyes combo, it always worked on Momo.
‘I can’t fall for that!’ Kaidoh took a step back. “I don’t even know how to make those.” He all but hissed.
“I know but…but you’ve cooked before, that’s more then I could say.” She sniffled, he was her last hope. If he said no, she might really cry. “I didn’t know it was important to give him chocolate, I didn’t even know when Valentines Day was. I thought I could give him a cheeseburger but Rei she…she laughed at me. I can’t ask for her help now and everyone else…Momo is going to break up with me…”
Kaidoh quickly covered her mouth with his hand to stop her rambling. Blushing he removed it just as fast. “Fine, I don’t know if I can be of any help but I’ll try.” Her face lit up. “Meet me after practice; we’ll get the things we need.” Nodding she took his hand and shook it vigorously.
“Thank you Kaidoh-kun!”
The two made their way towards the court. Kaidoh went to get changed.
“Ah, !” Momo walked over and kissed his girlfriend on the cheek. “You staying till after practice I’ll walk you home?”
Freezing racked her brain, ‘think think think, you can’t let him find out.’ “I can’t…I umm.” She looked around franticly. “Oh! I have to get home fast to watch my neighbors dog, yeah! That’s it.” Momo looked at his girlfriend oddly. “Oh, well gotta go!” She turned to leave but not before passing Kaidoh. “At the bus station by the market.” She whispered and jogged off.
Momo turned his attention from to Kaidoh. “Is there something I should know Mamushi.” The statement accompanied by a mean glare.
‘Why do I have to help this idiot?’ Kaidoh turned and hissed. “No…”

After practice waited patiently by the bus stop. Kaidoh came up beside her and nodded, the two made their way to the market.
Echizen went up to his senpai, “Momo-chan wants to get burgers.”
Fighting off the bad feeling he got ever since the beginning of practice he turned grinning to his younger friend. “Nah, think I’m just gonna go home and sleep today off.” Nodding the younger boy left and Momo made his way home.
“Ahh, look Kaidoh-kun look!” She pointed to the cute shaped chocolates in the shop window. “Can we make them look like that?” He shrugged his shoulders, holding the bags of ingredients in his hands. “Oh, maybe we can make little tennis rackets!” She giggled as she pulled him along to her home. “Let’s go!”
Momo frowned as he watched his adorable little girlfriend pull his rival along. ‘What is going on?’ He was about to follow and demand an explanation when someone called for him.
“Oi, its Momo-chan!” He turned to spot a little red head.
Nodding at her, “Hello, Ann-chan.”
She smiled and tucked her hair behind her ear. “Hey! Are you busy? I was just going to the street courts! You should come.” He was going to decline and go after the other two but Ann seemed to not want any of that. “You’re not so let’s go.” She grabbed his arm and pulled him along. He took on last look in the direction Mai went off in before following Ann.

“We…kinda suck…” and Kaidoh looked down at their pitiful excuse for chocolate.
“Well, I told you I’ve never made this kind of thing either.” Kaidoh frowned. He was about to call it quits when he glanced at . She looked about ready to cry...again. “Alright well we have tomorrow right, I have an idea.”
brightened up and turned to her new found friend. “Really!”
Nodding he blushed lightly as he looked away, “It’s not chocolate but it will do well enough and I know how to make it.”
Jumping and hugging him she thanked him over and over.

had successfully avoided Momo all day. She only had one more day, she couldn’t let him know. Everyone knew she was horrible with secrets, and Momo seemed to be able to read her like a book. She smiled, ‘I hope he likes whatever I make.’
“So, do feel better today?” looked up seeing Eiji and Momo walking down the hall.
‘Oh, no! You idiot you went off into dream land.’ Quickly she hid in the closest room.
“Yeah, just had a bad day I suppose.” Momo scratched the back of his head.
“You look all happy did something good happen on your way home yesterday?” Eiji piped in bouncing lightly.
Momo thought back to what he saw but quickly grinned. “Ah, I just want to the courts with Ann-chan.”
froze, ‘Ann-chan?’
“Wah, that cute girl you use to crush on all the time.” peeked out just in time to see Momo blush full force. She quickly back up and made her exit through another door in the classroom.
“I never did!” Momo whined, “You all know I didn’t!”
Eiji laughed and nodded. “Of course, you have -chan! She’s the cutest.” He winked at his younger friend.
Smiling faintly he nodded also, “Yeah…”

sat on her front steps staring at nothing.
“-chan?” She looked up to see Kaidoh standing before her, arms loaded with stuff.
“Oh!” She quickly stood and took some things before opening the door and letting the boy in. “Sorry, I lost track of time.”
Looking over her suspiciously he followed her to the kitchen where they started to unload their arms.
“So what are we making? Is it going to taste yummy?” He watched as her expression changed completely. nodded her head, more to herself then anything else. She didn’t care about the girl Momo use to have a crush on! was his girlfriend and she was going to make him something delicious. And he would never think about that Annie-whatever girl again!
About two hours past and Mai carefully took the tray out of the oven. “Wah, it smells good.”
Kaidoh grinned. “Yeah, my mother taught me how to cook little cakes when I was younger.” He blushed and rubbed the back of his head. “I think she really wanted a little girl.”
laughed as she set the tray down to cool. “Do you think Momo will like them?” She bit her lip and looked down at the cute little cakes. “Do you think they’d be better than chocolate?”
“Fsuuuu, that idiot will like anything he can eat.” She laughed and poked his shoulder.
“You two act like you hate each other, but I think you are really good friends.” Kaidoh huffed at this and prepared to leave. giggled. “Thanks Kaidoh-kun.”
Momo stopped mid knock. ‘Why is he here?’ He side stepped to hide behind the wall when he heard her front door unlock.
Kaidoh opened the door and stepped out. “See you tomorrow, Kaidoh-kun!” She gave him a big hug. “Thanks so much! I had a lot of fun!”
He nodded before turning and walking away, she closed the door when he was out of sight.
Momo was dumbfounded. He couldn’t even move to find out what the hell that was all about. His girlfriend and the Mamushi… he shook his head he didn’t even want to think about it!

nearly skipped to school, that’s how happy she was. In her bag, protectively wrapped, were her cakes for Momo. She’d give it to him right away! She just had to find him!
All throughout the day watched as girls gave their gifts to their selected guys. She frowned as she looked down into her desk. ‘It’s like he’s avoiding me.’
Kaidoh looked over at his classmate, then back out the window. ‘Ah…’ He stood and made his way to her. “-chan…”
She looked up and smiled. “Hello, Kaidoh-kun.”
He nodded. “Momo is in the courtyard…”
Her eyes lit up, “really?” He nodded and she jumped up and took off running.
Kaidoh went back to his seat and glanced out the window again. Quickly doing a double take his eyes widened and he stood and ran out of the classroom.

Momo was in a terrible mood. His beautiful lovely girlfriend and that stupid snake wanna be. He didn’t want to see her, he didn’t know what he’d do if he saw her. So he stayed away from her classroom and all their normal spots all day. The day was almost over and he just needed to get home now.
“Momo-chan…” He turned around to see Ann-chan standing not to far away.
“Ann-chan, what are you doing here?” He nearly fell over when she blushed.
finally slowed as she entered the courtyard. Her eyes landed on Momo and she smiled. It quickly disappeared when she saw a short girl standing before him. ‘Is she confessing to him, she doesn’t look like a student from our school?’
That’s when she heard it, “Ann-chan?”
Ann smiled sweetly up at Momo. “Well, I made these for you.” She handed him a cutely decorated box.
Momo being the dense boy that he is took the box smiling sheepishly. “Thanks? I think… you didn’t have to do that.”
“You know, they are for…”
Kaidoh came running out just as turned to run away. “Offt…” She crashed into someone but didn’t have the strength to move away from him.
Ann and Momo looked over just in time to catch basically standing in Kaidou’s arms. Ann smirked. “Awe, Kaidoh is that your girlfriend? You‘re getting Valentines Day goodies too, ne?”
tensed, waiting for Momo to correct her. She wasn’t expecting what she heard next. “Yeah, Mamushi. Is it?” Momo’s voice came out loud and clear.
Dropping her cakes, which Kaidoh happened to catch, she took off running. ‘You idiot.’
Kaidoh looked down at the package in his hand. Looking back up at Momo he glared, hard. Ann watched as he made his way over to them. Momo went to speak but he didn’t have a chance. Kaidoh pulled his fist back and Ann gasped as it collided with Momo’s face. “You really are an idiot.”
Momo glared as he held his slowly bruising cheek. “What the hell…” Standing, with the help of Ann, he growled.
Tossing the package to Momo Kaidoh turned to leave. “Fsuuu, I didn’t want to help make something for an idiot like you but -chan looked ready to cry.” He turned back glaring once again at Momo. “Cause she didn’t know how to make Valentines Day chocolates for you.”
Momo looked down as he opened the package. “They aren’t chocolates but that shouldn’t matter.” Kaidoh walked away as he stuffed his hands in his pocket. “Idiot…”
Quickly looking back at Ann he tossed her back her gift. “Sorry, Ann-chan…” He ran off after . ‘Stupid stupid!’ He wanted to hit himself.

Momo rounded the corner and took a deep breath. “Geez, where did she go?”
Rei rounded the other corner, “Momo!” She ran up to him and grabbed his shoulders. “What did you do?”
Momo looked down at the girl shaking him. “Where’s ?”
Rei growled and turned her back to him. “Why should I tell you? You made her cry!”
Momo turned the girl back towards him. “Where is my girlfriend?” Rei looked shocked by the usually laid-back boy’s angry gaze. She pointed in the direction of the gym.
He nodded and took off again. Rei shook her head, ‘They are both idiots…’
dried her eyes on the sleeve of her shirt. ‘Stupid…’
“Ah, there you are …” She turned to see Momo breathing hard behind her. She readied herself to take off again, but he grabbed her pulling her to his body. “Maybe you should join the track team…” He murmured.
She struggled in his grasp but he only held tighter. Wrapping both his arms around her. “Too soon to joke huh?”
“Let me go Momoshiro!” He cringed at his full name.
“Nope…” looked down at the arms entrapping her and saw her gift.
Snatching it she growled. “I didn’t give this to you; I gave it to my possible boyfriend, Kaidoh-kun!”
Tensing he turned her and looked her in the eye. “You were lying to me!”
glared. “I…”
“You said some nonsense of watching your neighbor’s dog! Then I see the two of you having a good ole’ time. Then I figure I’ll ask you personally and he comes out of your house and you hug him!” He had a hopeless look on his face. “What was I suppose to think ?”
“I…” She wanted to yell at him that he should have trusted her! Trusted his teammate but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. So she looked down and sniffled trying not to cry. “I should have just gotten you a cheese burger!”
Momo look down at his nearly crying girlfriend. He couldn’t hold it back; he started laughing as he brought her into his arms again.
“What’s so funny? I’ve been having a horrible time ever since this stupid Valentines Day crap started!” She tried to push the laughing boy away but he held on tight. “Rei and Echizen laughed at me. Then she said you were taking other girls chocolates and I saw you dancing in the chocolate heart field! I ruined hundreds of would-be chocolates. I couldn’t think of anyone to help me! Then when I do, he didn’t know how to make it either! And then I hear you went on a date with the girl you had a crush on and you took her chocolates! Then…then…” She pouted.
Momo watched in amazement as she spoke so fast without taking a single breath. “Done?”
She shook her head no. “THEN YOU BASICALLY TELL ME TO GO OUT WITH KAIDOU-KUN!” She looked down. “And I didn’t mean to lie…I just wanted it to be a surprise.” She whispered into his shirt.
“No!” looked up; she didn’t remember asking a yes or no question. Then again she never really thought when she rambled. “I won’t give you to Mamushi even if you asked!”
“Momo, that really isn’t…” She took a step back. “Out of all of that all you heard was that part! You idiot!”
Momo laughed pulling her back before she could get away. “I never had a crush on Ann-chan. They just made fun of me because she always made me uncomfortable, but not because of the reasons you think.” He sighed, honestly Ann scared Momo. “And I didn’t mean to accept her chocolates.” looked up at him skeptically. He blushed and diverted his eyes. “I didn’t know it was Valentines Day.” Her mouth dropped open. “I was distracted today!” He tried to defend himself.
‘All this trouble…’ She groaned. “All this trouble I’m putting myself through and you don’t even know what day it is!”
Momo laughed and grinned sheepishly. “But…I really want your cakes…” He smiled down at her in his charming way.
“No…I’m going to eat them myself.” She turned and started to walk away.
He pouted and like a kicked puppy he followed. “Oh, c’mon …”
She turned back smirking. “I know…I’ll share them with Kaidoh-kun.” Growling he literally pounced on her lifting her over his shoulder. “Put…put me down!” He didn’t listen until he got to a shaded patch of grass. He kneeled down before gently sitting her on the ground.
He placed his hand on the wrapped box he smiled. “Gemme…” She shook her head no. Smirking he leaned in and took her lips, kissing her until her grip lightened, “ha!”

He groaned lightly and laid his head down into her lap. Crossing his arms over his chest he closed his eyes. “HEY!”
He smirked and looked up at his now pouting girlfriend. “What? I’m taking a nap…”
She lightly smacked the side of his head. “You’re supposed to… I don’t know tell me if they were good or something.”
“Yeah, they were okay.” He closed his eyes again.
“I should ask Kaidoh-kun to punch you again.” Knocking his head out of her lap she growled.
He turned onto his stomach and wrapped his arms around her middle. “They were good, but not like you.” He mumbled.
frowned. “But…isn’t stuff like this important.”
“You don’t have to make me things like that….” He snuggled his head into her stomach, causing her to hold back a giggle. “This is what’s important.” He leaned up and kissed her lips before snuggling back into her.
Looking down at her overly cuddly boyfriend she sighed. “I don’t care what anyone says…” Getting comfortable, she ran her hand through his hair. “Next year, it’s a cheeseburger.”
Momo smiled as he relaxed into her gentle petting. “Hmm, sounds good.” He slurred falling into a light sleep.
