Fuji Syuusuke, tensai extraordinaire and one may call him a prince of sorts, has always been put on a pedestal ever since he was young and discovered his tennis abilities.
Fuji Syuusuke, a teenage boy, knows he is not perfect. All he wants is a challenge in tennis; his brother to love him again; and to find a nice girl who sees him—faults and all. However, the last goal of Fuji may be impossible since every girl out there thinks that he is a prince and views him as such.
Luckily, Fuji is not alone in feeling that he is put high up on a pedestal. Every member of the following school’s tennis team is placed in the status of prince like for fangirls: Seigaku, Hyoutei, Rikkai, Yamabuki, Rokkaku, Shitenhouji, Higa, St. Rudolph, Jyousei and Fudomine. Some, like Atobe, do not mind or ignore the hoards of girls that stalk them.
According to Inui, only several of the boys have girlfriends (that were never their fangirls). Fuji thought at how lucky Nioh, Akutsu, Sengoku, Marui, Oshitari, Atobe, and Seigaku’s own Eiji found girls that care.
“OI, EARTH TO FUJI,” shouted Eiji, into the tensai’s ear breaking Fuji out of his thoughts of being alone forever.
“Saa, Eiji you don’t have to scream,” said Fuji, smiling. “What can I do for you?”
“Ah, you see, Faith-chan got four tickets to see this play on Friday. At first we were going to ask another couple to come with us but they had plans or had tickets themselves, so Faith-chan invited a friend of hers to come,” babbled Eiji. “Do you wanna come with us, nya?”
“Sure, why not,” said Fuji, smiling. “It’ll be nice to see Faith-san again.”
“Fuji, she’s in our class, nya,” said Eiji, rolling his eyes. Fuji just kept smiling. Eiji’s girlfriend Faith kept dear Eiji grounded, which is good for him.
Thus Friday night, Fuji found himself at Faith’s apartment that she shared with her brother and father. Faith’s friend lived next door to her, so Faith was just getting her. Eiji sat in between Faith’s brother and father, which still made Eiji feel very uncomfortable. Fuji sat there, almost wanting to laugh at Eiji’s plight.
“Okay, Eiji-kun, Fuji, we’re here,” said Faith, coming in. She was at least a head shorter than Eiji and had boy-cut black hair and black eyes. She was dragging in a petite girl with medium length dark blue hair and midnight blue eyes. “This is , my best friend. , this is Kikumaru Eiji-kun and his friend Fuji Syuusuke.”
“Nice to meet you,” said , bowing politely to Eiji and Fuji.
“Saa, nice to meet you,” said Fuji.
“Nya, Faith-chan’s friend is pretty,” said Eiji, grinning. “Are we ready to go?”
“Have them back by curfew, Kikumaru,” snarled Faith’s brother and father at the same time. Eiji nodded nervously. The four headed out and got into the cab that was waiting. Fuji noted that stayed close to Faith. She was cute and innocent; he wondered how old she was. probably was about thirteen; Faith, Eiji and Fuji are seventeen by the way.
“Saa, what school do you attend,” asked Fuji.
“Oh, I’m home schooled, Fuji-san,” said .
“She’s always been since I started school, we’ve known each other since birth, right ,” asked Faith.
“Yes, Faith,” said , smiling at Faith. Fuji still smiled; she was the same age as them then. She must not go out a lot judging why she is staying close to Faith, the only person knows real well. At the theater, Fuji spotted Atobe with his equally rich and stubborn girlfriend and Oshitari and his tensai girlfriend. Not only that, he saw Nioh and his narcoleptic, genius girlfriend. Marui, Akutsu and Sengoku were apparently not there. Faith got them decent seats, not like Atobe got for his group, of course. They seated with Faith in between Eiji and and Fuji sitting next to (Eiji, Faith, , and Fuji in that order).
“So what’s the play about,” asked , to Faith.
“It’s based off one of the many Kabuki plays,” said Faith. As the play started, Faith and Eiji held hands and was very much into the play. Fuji, in truth, seen this play before with Saeki last month but he was bored so he decided to go anyway. He actually spent most of the evening watching . He never had seen someone so wide-eyed and excited over something simple such as a play. She did not even cling closer to Faith. During the intermission, Faith left for the bathroom. Of course Fuji noted ’s suddenly frightened demeanor. Faith was obviously ’s protector when she went out. So the tensai patted on the hand.
“It is okay, Faith-san will be back soon,” said Fuji, smiling. smiled nervously back.
“Thank you,” said .
“Of course,” said Fuji. Monday afternoon Fuji got roped into helping Eiji and Faith with their physics homework because he already taken that class and passed with flying colors. He thought back to the blue haired neighbor of Faith, it was a pity that she did not attend Seigaku, he would like to get to know her more.
“So, anyway, really liked you two,” said Faith. “I’m afraid I’ve been her only friend and that’s because her mother and my mother were best friends. Her mother is extremely overprotective and possessive of .”
“I think -chan is a very nice girl,” said Eiji. “You should take her to our tennis matches, Faith-chan!”
“Saa, I agree with Eiji,” said Fuji. To his surprise at the next practice matches, which were against Rikkai, Faith did bring along. Of course the Seigaku regulars greeted her with much enthusiasm, possibly scaring poor . Again she stayed close to Faith and watched the matches. The doubles matches were over decently fast with one win to Seigaku and the other to Rikkai. Singles 3 was reserved for Fuji verses Nioh.
“Amazing,” said .
“Fuji isn’t a tensai for nothing,” said Faith. “But Nioh-san is Rikkai’s trickster.”
“Che, but we all know that Fuji already beat Nioh,” said the narcoleptic girlfriend of Nioh. “Once Fuji Syuusuke defeats an opponent, that opponent is no challenge to the tensai of Seigaku.”
“Scary, ain’t he,” said Faith, in a questioning manner to .
“Not really,” said .
“Your friend is weird,” said Nioh’s girlfriend, amused. Fuji barely defeated Nioh and was congratulated by his team.
“Saa, that was fun,” said Fuji. “Did I do well?”
“You won, didn’t you,” said Inui, pushing up his glasses.
“Is this your first time watching tennis,” asked Fuji to , completely ignoring Inui, who got out his notebook and began writing.
“Yes, I thought you did great,” said .
“Saa, thank you,” replied Fuji. The following day at school, Faith cornered Fuji. She could be an intimidating girl when she wanted to be.
“Listen, Fuji, told me to give you something,” said Faith. She glared dangerously at him. “You hurt her, I don’t care that you are Eiji-kun’s best friend who is a tensai, I will destroy you understand?” She handed him an envelope. She left and Fuji opened the letter.
‘Dear Fuji Syuusuke,
As I am not very good at speaking, I thought I write you a letter. I kind of like you. Faith told me that you are a tensai at tennis and you have your own fan club (I find that creepy but whatever). I’m sure everyone puts you high on a pedestal and I may not know you well but I don’t think you like that. When I watched you play, I could tell that you were bored. I knew that it was not your best and I wonder who could bring the best out in you. Anyway, I like when your eyes are open because I can tell what you’re feeling. I know we just met and this must be a daily love confession or something on your part. So sorry if I bothered you, but I just wanted you to know.
’
Fuji stared at the letter, this is the most honest love confession he has ever received. Perhaps, she will be the type of person to love him, the good and the bad. That afternoon Fuji went to ’s home and knocked on the door. It was probably lucky that ’s mother was not home as answered. She immediately flushed red and invited him inside.
“-san, thank you very much for the letter,” said Fuji, smiling.
“Er, you’re welcome,” said , confused.
“I was thinking that perhaps we should spend Saturday together, to get to know each other better,” said Fuji.
“I would really like that,” said , smiling. “But my mother probably won’t let me go.”
“I’m sure your mother will let us, after all Faith-san and Eiji will be coming with us,” said Fuji. looked relived. Fuji was not stupid; Faith told him that her mother was overprotective, so it will probably be awhile before they got to go on a date by themselves.
One month later, Fuji was sitting across from a very disgruntled mother. Fuji asked if he could take out without Faith and Eiji. She was thinking all the while staring down Fuji with a glare.
“I suppose that you can take her on a date without Faith-chan and her boyfriend,” started ’s mother, “BUT, you must have her back by her curfew and you must make sure that she is safe!”
“Okaa-san,” whined , from the other room, “I’m not a baby anymore!”
“Don’t worry -san,” said Fuji. “I’ll take good care of -chan.” Apparently that is all -san needed to hear and gave her permission. Thus, that following weekend, Fuji picked up to go to botanical gardens and then out to dinner. At the gardens, Fuji led around. Of course flowers are beautiful but when plentiful, flowers can be breathtaking.
“Saa, -chan do you like this place,” said Fuji.
“Yes very much so,” said , smiling with a blush on her face. Fuji patted her on the head.
“Aniki? What are you doing here,” asked Yuuta, Fuji’s little brother. Apparently he works at the botanical gardens.
“Ah, Yuuta, this is your new job that I heard about from Nee-chan,” said Fuji, smiling. “-chan, this is my brother Yuuta. Yuuta this is -chan, my girlfriend.”
“Aniki, you have a girlfriend,” asked Yuuta, “You didn’t tell Nee-chan yet did you?”
“Ah, no, I don’t want Nee-chan to suffocate poor -chan with her hugs,” said Fuji, smiling. was kind of hiding behind him; she does that every time they ran into someone that Fuji knows. Just a few days ago Saeki was in town and Saeki decided that he liked to make blush. Another time they ran into Atobe and much to Fuji’s annoyance talked solely about Tezuka and he would not leave. “I would love to talk to you more Yuuta but I’m a date with -chan. Come home next weekend and we’ll have a nice family dinner.”
“Yeah, sure,” said Yuuta, “I have to go back to work.” He left, muttering something about ‘that poor girl is with my crazy Aniki, may the gods be with her’.
“Your brother seems nice,” said .
“He is such a good boy,” said Fuji. “Come now; let’s go take a look at some more flowers.” He watched her walk alongside him. She was really cute, as usual. He was glad that he got to spend some alone time with her. Of course not that Fuji did not mind hanging out with Faith and Eiji, it was just that Faith had certain rules that made it impossible to show any affection.
“Uh, Fuji-kun do I have something on my face,” asked . It seems Fuji has been caught staring. He chuckled lightly.
“Nothing, I was just admiring your beauty,” said Fuji. blushed lightly. They continued on and eventually headed to a nice place for dinner. After they ordered, Fuji began to watch again. She looked innocent and wide-eyed as she looked around the place.
“Fuji-kun, you’re staring again,” said , blushing.
“Ah, I was caught again,” said Fuji, playfully. She giggled. “Saa, you’re so cute, -chan.” She just blushed redder. After Fuji and ate their dinner, Fuji walked home.
“Thanks, I had fun,” said , smiling. They were standing in front of her apartment. Fuji noticed ’s mother peaking out of the window as Faith was from her apartment window. Fuji chuckled.
“We have an audience,” said Fuji.
“Oh dear,” said . It was time for her to part from dear Fuji. She tiptoed and kissed Fuji on the cheek and entered her house. Fuji smiled and headed home. He thinks that she is the one that will be able to understand him. Today, life is good.
