August ‘08 DOPAMINE PoT Dream Novel Writer Hunt Info!
Edited: Added info that all interested entrants will be required to register beforehand.
Note: If you don’t have the time, the drive, and the passion to write at least one DN per month, please don’t apply. We’re currently looking for active writers who want to satiate their thirst to write and share what’s in their minds. We already have much too many writers on hiatus, we don’t want to add to that number. If you want to write DNs but don’t think you can commit to one per month, please be informed that DOPAMINE accepts guest DNs as long as they’re written in readable English.
DOPAMINE’s hunt for writers will begin SOON!
The mechanics are simple:
- I will be posting a specific scenario and all aspiring members will have to write a story around it using one PoT prince (ANY of the characters) and one original character (the female lead). One story per person only.
- I will post the minimum and maximum allowed number of words along with the scenario. The stories cannot go over or under those required number of words.
- The scenario will be posted on a particular time (we’ll be using GMT timezone) and the stories should be in my mailbox exactly one week later. (i.e., if I posted the scenario today 6:00PM, I expect all entries to be submitted on the 26th at exactly 6:00PM).
- You will be required to REGISTER first before the I post the scenario. Only entries from people who pre-registered will be considered. The instructions on how to register will be posted later.
- You can submit earlier if you want, but I suggest waiting until the last day so you can rethink the story and proofread your submission. NO preference will be given to those who submit earlier.
- It’s of extreme importance that it be evident that the story was written SPECIFICALLY for the recruitment, and NOT an old story rewritten to fit the scenario.
- Please take heed that you do NOT have to include the scenario word-for-word in your story (although you can if you choose to). It could just be implied. It could also be re-written to fit your story. As long as it’s obvious that the scenario is a CENTRAL part of the plot, then that’s acceptable.
- We will be recruiting more than one writer from this, so don’t hesitate to tell your friends about it; there’s no competition among the entrants.
- Take note that we judge based on the following criteria: 1) Plot; 2) Reability and flow; 3) Characterization; 4) Grammar and spelling.
- The stories submitted by the chosen writers will be posted here in DOPAMINE unless they specifically asked not to.
The scenario and the number of required words will be posted on 00:00 (GMT timezone) August 24, 2008.
If there are any more questions about the mechanics or anything else about the recruitment, post a comment here and I’ll try to answer them as soon as I can.
For examples of “scenarios” so you’d understand what the heck I’m talking about, hit the jump.
*I repeat: The scenario DOES NOT have to be included in the story word-for-word (although it can be if you want to). It could be implied or rewritten to fit the characters and the story. As long as it’s part of the CENTRAL plot, that’s acceptable.
The scenario will be devoid of any name or specific identifying characteristics (i.e., color of hair or eyes) so you won’t be influenced by them. As such, the example scenarios below were stripped of those elements as well, and are quite different from their original forms.
SCENARIO EXAMPLES:
===========================================
EXAMPLE 1
From Diamonds, Diamonds, Diamonds chapter 1:
She lifted her body off the floor heavily. She slowly stood up and slumped heavily atop a garden seat, reaching into her pocket for her case of Sobranie Black Russian - the only luxury she allows herself. She fumbled all over her suit to find her precious cigarettes in vain, laughing aloud bitterly as she realized they weren’t on her. How cruel can the world get? All she needed was a smoke and everything would go away. Yet even that is denied her.
She noticed a shadow by the entrance of the gazebo earlier on but decided to ignore it. Now though, it was hard to do so, not when the shadow started becoming bigger and coming closer.
“Here.”
She blinked at the shadow before realizing it was her husband offering her a lit Marlboro.
“It ain’t your brand, but it’ll do for now.”
“Since when have you been here?” She asked him accusingly, taking the lit cigarette in his hand nevertheless.
He shrugged and faked a nonchalant expression. “A while.”

EXAMPLE 2
From Borderline Insanity:
As she walked down the grand staircase all eyes in the room turned towards her. Her hair was tied up, a few curls bouncing freely from their binds. Her beautiful neck and shoulders bare, save a delicate necklace dangling freely. The strapless blood red dress fit her perfectly as it flowed down her body. Stopping above her knees, it showed just enough leg to catch every male’s attention. Yet still had enough class to have every female gasp at her beauty. One pair of eyes seemed to intensify as the goddess made her way towards the stunned crowd. Though he made no move to meet her.
A man dressed in his evening wear smiled as he bowed slightly to her. “You look rather stunning, though I don’t believe that is the attire that he picked for you to wear.”
The woman bowed her head back slightly and kept her beautiful smile in place. “Oh, but I am sure you both knew by now what was going to happen. If he would have asked me politely to wear something, I might have at least given it some thought. However, the moment he tells me to do something, the more inclined I am to piss him off by completely ignoring his request.”

Can’t wait! I’ll be sure to have a go. =D
about the one DN per month thing, what if we can commit to one DN per month but sometimes we may submit the DN late? Maybe a week after a month has passed only are we able to get it up….is that fine? @_@
As long as I’m informed of the late submission for the month, there’s no problem. =) I also understand that writers could miss some months when they’re terribly busy. All I ask is that writers strive to be active and always notify me when they’re unavailable and not able to submit anything for a particular month.
[...] before anything else, if anyone missed it, here is the list of preliminary information you need to know about DOPAMINE’s writer hunt this August 2008. As I mentioned before, [...]
about the guest writer thing, I was wondering if there are any guidelines for them? Like DN length etc etc?
I really wish to join team Dopamine but after thinking it thoroughly, I’m afraid my honor classes and after school CAS hours will get in the way of me writing a DN a month =/ But I still want to write PoT DNs…
So I was thinking of becoming a guest writer until I’m confident I can keep up in class at least ^^; But of course, thats only if you guys allow me to >.<
Edit: Oh okay, it looks like I copied the wrong address. I hope you get my email now. =)
Hey Ren! Could you send me an email to mitsuiselphie[@]gmail.com? I tried to send you a mail using the address you’re using for your comments, but it bounced back. Thanks!
kya~ i have the same question as Ren…=P i want to try but i don’t think i have enough inspiration or time to do so…o_O (though i doubt i’ll get in)
Hi ann! Sent you an email with the guidelines. Thanks!
Sounds like it will be a ton of fun!
